Simply brilliant not trading him at the TDL.......

Can we punt the Pirates??

Felipe Vazquez, the Pirates’ All-Star closer, was arrested Tuesday morning on charges of pornography and soliciting a child, per the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Vazquez, 28, faces charges of computer pornography — solicitation of a child and one count of providing obscene material to minors.

I'm not going to fault them for not moving Vazquez at the deadline. They didn't know. It's something you would have liked them to know, but you can't know everything about a person. And if they knew, it would have been dirty pool to move him knowing that and 1) keeping their mouths shut and 2) washing their hands of it and shifting the "liability" to someone else with a ticking bomb.

I'm simply stating that the correct move was to move on from him and if they had, this would be the Dodgers nightmare.

Don't use hindsight. Not moving Vazquez at the deadline was absolutely the right move if they weren't getting good enough offers

Personally, I'd hate the organization even more had that been what they had done. Making them extremely ****ty humans by keeping this quiet and putting, but you do you.

Dude, you are arguing with yourself. They didn't know!@

I'm saying the correct BASEBALL MOVE was to trade his butt at the DEADLINE>

this is truly the most nightmarish Pirates season I've experienced in my decade of following the team. some of you lifelongers have had much, much worse, I know, but the degrees of ludicrousness here are just absurd. holy f***.

Do YOU know what the offers were? I hate that line. No, none of us know. We're not involved, that's why we're vomiting onto a message board online.

Like I said way back in the brighter days of July. They were right and wrong to not trade Vazquez then. They obviously didn't meet their asking price and we all want the best return possible, but a reliever on a long term deal was not on a deadline to move. They were going to have at least 2 more choice opportunities to move him. Any player is a risk to get hurt, get the yips, get arrested, etc, you can't see one of those happen to today and complain that they didn't foresee that yesterday.

You stated the reason they didn't make the trade because the value wasn't there....... YOU STATED THAT, or do you not remember your own posts?

Pirates have the worst luck combined with a cheap owner. I swear NH must feel like hes in baseball purgatory . No matter what he does its either the wrong time...and when he is ready to trade an asset like Vaz...Its the one year teams hang onto their top prospects lol.

Im amazed our system is as good as it is with how bad this teams luck is. To still land Reynolds and Cruz. Have Newman, Hayes, Tucker. Swaggerty, Mason Martin. Etc Keller, Bolton, Priester. And so on.

When they could/should have Glasnow - Meadows - Baz. Nick Lodolo gets taken in early 2nd and decides to pass...rarely happens. Ends up the top pick last year(at SP...7th to Cincy). And then Gunnar Hoglund, another top pitching prospect we took in comp round passes...is expected to go top 10 in 2021.

Couldn't land Gavin Lux for Vaz but rumors were Ruiz, Jasiah Gray , and DJ Peters(the two prospects the Reds gave them for Kemp, Puig, etc). Gray continues to improve. So that deal looks great now that Vaz is done. But if NH pulled trigger...it would have been compared to Cole Trade. Alot relies on Keibert Ruiz. If he ends up the next good catcher in MLB...Ill be pissed.

But whatever...all the bad luck a franchise could get and they still worked their way back up to a top 10 farm again. NH doesn't get nearly enough credit. Dude has to be the GM with both hands tied behind his back...

Im just happy with the Reynolds and Cruz returns at this point. Now it's a must we move Marte before something happens. He has 2 years left. Gotta trade him in winter to make up for this now. Our luck he will get hurt next season...then only have 1 year left on deal...struggle and return goes way down.

We could have

Glasnow
Keller
Lodolo
Baz
Hoglund
Priester
Gray

And Catcher Ruiz...possibly our next franchise catcher that's in AAA and 21.

Thats 7 top end pitching prospects with Tyler already proving hes one of the best. Not only do we not have most of them but no Vaz either.

And no Taillon

So once again...we need NH to make moves to make up for this mess. Gonna have to take a chance that Burdi comes back healthy, and Blake Cederlind becomes our next closer or set up(will see more of him in AZFL this week). And get good return on on Kela. f*** it..take that chance. Kela will be FA next year and def won't stay. Have to hope Crick bounces back.

So trade Kela and Marte. Next year, is when they look to moving Polanco...year after Bell. Have to get all those right.

Their replacements also have to pan out... Swaggerty in for Marte. Cruz in for Polanco. Mason Martin in for Bell.

And we have to get the 8th/9th pick in draft right. Deep draft but we need to end up with one of the steals of it. Whether its HS Pitcher Mick Abel(hoping to get Glasnow again with him reaching his potential. Has it all), or they go with a college pitcher in Asa Lacy/JT Ginn....or a bat. And with next few picks they just need to go over slot. Stock up at the top with all the BPAs. Don't worry about later on like they have been even tho its worked.

Another thing to happen that needs to make our FO do something they normally wouldn't. No Taillon and Vaz now? Go spend some money. Spend 20 mil on Catcher Grandal. And a starter or two.

Can always trade them at deadline anwyay...something Nutting can't grasp when giving NH a budget.

Innocent until proven guilty, but if Vazquez is guilty then American jail is too good for him. Revoke his work visa, freeze his bank accounts, and send him back to Venezuela penniless.

Actually, what they'll do is jail him here, then deport him when his sentence is up, but your sentiment is spot on. I can think of nothing more sickening than what he's accused of doing.

Holy crap that's really bad if he's denied bail. This whole season turns me off from being a Pirates fan entirely, but I just had a sinking feeling in my stomach from reading that. That's ominous.

We don't know these players personally. Wouldnt stop me from being a Pirates fan...but Vaz went from our top pitcher and asset to an afterthought. Another long line of regrets in Pirates history. Those f***s would have given us Gavin Lux if the trade deadline was simply two weeks prior. His status sky rocketed after hitting .450 in AAA for those few weeks.
.
Pirates luck. But you know what can counter bad luck? Spend some damn money on legit FAs to fill out the rotation and giving us our catcher. As i said...if we are out of it by deadline...then sell. Its a zero risk situation.

Don't go trading our top prospects now in a panic. Just spend money when we normally wouldnt have to make up for it
