Matthews is obviously going to win it, but does anyone else think it would be absolutely hilarious if he wasn’t able to score another goal for the rest of the season even though he stayed healthy and ended up coming in second by one goal? The “pace” comments would crash HFBoards’ servers

That be the Leafiest thing ever therefore I fully expect it to happen.

Canadian division is a gift to Matthews.
Lets see who will win it next year when you have anything other than Senators

You understand the Leafs play the Senators 6 times a year in a normal season right? And doesn't almost every team have one or 2 weak teams in their division every season?

Having a rocket is a nice legacy and honour, would be happy for him to win it.

But anyone who understands that players score lots more goals on the power play than they do 5v5 should understand that Matthews has been the best goal scorer in the league since his rookie season, and rockets are just a matter of time pending game management and injuries. Even if Matthews wins it this year, there is a better case to make that Ovi is better than Matthews right now than there was, say, 2-3 years ago.

Definitely players that have rockets, important game winning goals, Stanley cups, will have greater goal scoring legacies. But Matthews is without question a generational goal scorer, and hopefully for Leafs fans he creates a legacy.

As long as the team keeps winning and he's buying into the 2way game I don't really care if he wins the Rocket. It's a nice feather in his cap to be sure but he's got grandeur visions than just individual accolades.

The Rocket win will be huge for the organization and fans.

Used to be 6, now it’s only 4. But they Leafs also get 4 against Buffalo in a normal season.
Leafs and Buffalo split the series last season 2-1-1? Buffalo always plays Toronto hard and eichel feasts on the leafs

This narrative about the north being an advantage to score goals in has been kinda weird when teams in the east get to dunk on New Jersey, Buffalo, and Philly 25 times this year. (Who are 21st, 28th, and 30th in goals against this year)

Getting sick of this "Yah but they play the Sens," There are 5 or 6 terrible teams in the league that are on par with the Sens...and in a regular season you play all the terrible teams.
