Actually given the teams involved this was about as civilized and calm a way this game was ever going to end. I liked the ref's calm dismissal of most of the two teams' B.S.

Admittedly, with these two sides, it’s a hard job. But he didn’t give any cards basically all match. He let clear yellows go. It always was going to be physical with lots of rolling around. It’s Uruguay and Portugal. It’s a fight. He wasn’t up to it.

I support Uruguay, but I would not say they were better, period. Great strikers and some play-it-safe mentality unsupported by a goalie whose hand are rather shaky. I hope Cavani gets himself together though.

Amazing how Ronaldo hobbling off the field and making speeches into 2016 inspires his team to victory, but his being on the pitch in 2018 doesn't.

Maybe that beard of his (which looks stuck-on rather than real) has created a reverse Samson effect.

World Cups are better for having a Uruguay team that mixes talent and nastiness.
