The Times rates the English players from yesterday's match.

Except for the fact they made a World Cup Final in that period.

Oliver Kahn made it to the final of one of the weakest WCs in living memory, not the German NT. Ballack and the white Brazilian helped a little, but that was Oliver Kahn having his own Schmeichel in '92 moment

Second greatest performance from a player I've seen in a WC in my lifetime. #1 would be Baggio in 1994.

Ronaldo put up impressive numbers but he also had great support (Rivaldo in 98 and 2002 plus Ronaldinho in 2002).

Baggio in 94 was a man on a island. Italy was typically great at the back but was laughable up front.

Consider this, Baggo scored both of Italy's goals in the round of 16, the game winner in the 1/4 and both goals in the semi final as well. That's quite simply insane.

How about Suker, he was a man on a mission as well. Not quite on Baggio's level but still up there.

I don't remember that WC very well because I was very young, but on paper they had, besides Baggio: Zola, Massaro, Casiraghi, Beppe Signori. That's not so bad now is it

Name wise perhaps, but not on the pitch. Funny thing was that he was trashed because of a missed penalty while completely ignoring that they were where they were only because of him.

Once again there is a brilliant cartoon on spottschau.de. Hägar's wife Helga asks:"What did you bring me from England?"
