Speaking of math and lottery odds, a number of years ago when doing league hockey pools was more popular on here (before mods shut things down so now you only have one or two keeper leagues) I was curious so I took all the yahoo leagues I've played in, and calculated the average lottery draft position (d) vs the average number of teams (t). Statistically, d / t should come close to 0.5, as it's all random so the high picks will balance out the low picks: so if you draft 1/10 in league and 14/14 in another, the average would be 6/12.
My actual numbers though with a good sample size of about 20 leagues, was 11 / 14... yeah I know it's nonsense but I've just never trusted gambling, or have been able to get over the idea that some people have bad luck and some people have good luck. Especially for the latter when playing various game with my grandma over the years, I mean bingo should be completely random but damn she's good at winning it.
