Then I'll make my post much shorter and concise. He's not good enough to make the all-star game because there are players better than him.

Have you even watched the guy play? He led the league in assists, was the top penalty killing forward on the Caps, not to mention he finished 6th in scoring, but yea he's not an all-star.:laugh:

You make me laugh lol

He has been the best player for either team this series.

Really shows you what a playmaker can do when he mixes it up a little bit.

Corey Perry and Kevin Shattenkirk have more now in same amount of games and Vladimir Tarasenko has equal in same amount of games.

Backstrom has been good. Involved in 75% of all Caps goals so far in the series, yes the Caps have only scored 8, really crazy when you think about it.

That said, it's only 4 games in but he's been really really impressive so far.

You might want to check the scores of the Anaheim/Winnipeg series. Every goal is big, which is typical of a playoff series.

Ducks won 5-2, so 7 goals were scored. That's 25 goals in 4 games - 6.25 goals per game. In today's NHL that's kind of a lot, and it is significantly more than the 4.5 GPG in the Isles/Caps series.

By the way, Perry just passed him, which is as meaningless for Perry as it was for Backstrom.

It isn't meaningless at all. Being the most impactful player in a playoff series, or perhaps in the NHL overall -as Backstrom has been so far - is kind of a big deal for a player.

Backstrom's impact on the Caps-Isles series goes way beyond the points.

Winning face-offs ? Check.
Scoring key goals ? Check.
Great defense on the PK ? Check.
Creating scoring opportunities for teammates ? Check.

Creating a reason for this thread on HF ? No.

Guy is great. Have talked him up for years among people I talk to. Underrated sure, but who cares as long as he's performing show him some love as a Caps fan. It's like the **** with the Rangers fans that have to talk up Stepan every chance they get. Great players doing their job. Other fan bases don't have to recognize it, they'll just see when he's lighting it up against their teams. Hope he continues his scoring tonight.

3g 3a 6pts 4 games. Play tight on Ovechkin and space is left open for Backstrom.
Capuano says he wants the Backstrom v Tavares matchup. Its not working.

That's just not a good matchup for Tavares. They need to play shutdown hockey vs Backstrom, and Tavares is not the man to do that.

I love how you use one game, instead of the 2-1, 4-2, or 5-4 score. Guess what? One goal is still significant, because one goal can decide a game. Maybe one goal wasn't as important in Anaheim's 5-2 win(though even that is debatable, since one of them was an empty netter), but if a game finishes 5-4 you're still looking at one goal being the difference.

As for your second sentence, that's also debatable, and you'd have a tough time proving he's having a greater impact than another player in a completely different series. What isn't debatable is that Backstrom is no longer leading the league in playoff scoring, which kind of backs up everyone's claim that it's premature to really be talking about it, because we're 4 games in. He held the lead for as long as it took four other players to complete 4 games. After tonight, someone else could be leading.

One game to go. Is this a good matchup?
