Question about our team

Hello everyone, been a lurker for years (lost my password doh) and starting to agree with Tip needing to be replaced. My biggest concern has not really been discussed on the threads. Fricking Nash says it the way we need our kids to play and hes talking about fighting. We already lost Domi to a fight and I cringe when Crouse drops his gloves. Are we trying to turn our future stars into goons? To me it feels like our coaching staff believe this is the only way to win and entertain fans. To be honest I would rather watch the Yotes win 7 to 3 or lose 8 to 4 then watch another skilled player drops there gloves.. Whats next OEL drop them.. What your thoughts? Thanks

Hello new person :P

I think that's mostly Nash talking about how he played and working himself up. While I think it's clear the team sees a role for the energy fighter type like White, I don't think Tippett likes his skill guys fighting. He's certainly big on not taking normal 2 minute minors so I think the same applies here.

For the skill guys fighting who have been lately, I think that's just in their personality and to an extent I'm not really interested in that changing. OEL actually throwing down? Yeah that's would be a problem. But Guys like Domi and Crouse who while are and can be in the future impact players, are really more like 3rd at best on an actual good team's forward depth chart. I don't have a problem with those guys fighting once in a while. Domi could probably stand to initiate it less but that's about it IMO.

Nash couldn't play the game with skill so he played with his ten-cent head. That explains his opinions. Tippett was a grinder, and so he wants his players to be grinders.

So yes, we're saddled with "FINISH YOUR CHECKS!" and "TAKE THE BODY!" and etc. until we get someone on staff who realizes that it doesn't matter if you lead the league in hits if you are a lottery team.

I'm fine with finishing your checks and taking the body. In fact, I'd say this team doesn't finish their checks enough because Tippett's philosophy is to immediately transition to defense positionally and not taking the body which may take you out of the play (an idea that is not completely without merit). The fact we have an enormous number of hits advantage just means that the other team always has the puck.

I know that we've been talking about Tippet being fired, but if he was, would we consider pursuing Claude Julien? I know that the Bruins are seriously thinking about cutting ties with him no matter what happens against the Blackhawks tonight.

I don't think there is any encouragement from the coaching staff for any fights you have described. As for Tyson? He's frustrated like most everyone else and wants to see energy, his solution is grit and fighting. Trouble is these kids are still discovering their roles in the NHL and fortunately Tyson Nash will have nothing to do with that.

The only time I think Tip is happy with the energy is when the kids are getting into scraps. Hope I am wrong.

But man 1 bad season and so many down on our youth, remember where they were and are ranked.

1 LW Domi C Keller RW ??
2 LW Perlini C Dvorak RW DuClair
3 LW Crouse C Strome RW Fisher

D Chychrun Murphy
D DeAngelo Wood

and maybe Merkley

That's top line talent once they have a system to play and develop in. They are not dump and chase players.

Keller may be headed to wing...I'd assume so....and probably either wing. Team still needs a 1C in the worst way:

Domi- 1C - Duclair
Perlini - Dvorak - Keller
Reider - Strome - Fischer
Crouse - Dauphin - Martinook/Looke/UFA

OEL-1RHD
Chychrun-Wood
Goligoski-Murphy
Deangelo (PP specialist)

Your forward core has just one single RHS.

I don't view this as the case.

Keep in mind where we were and where we are at now. Hard to have any fights when you are the team who is down - most opposition doesn't want to engage to give any momentum to us.

We also don't get under the skin of opponents the way that we used to with Torres, Winnik, Bissonnette, and others consistently finishing checks and using some of the hits and intimidation factor.

Hard to be tough when you have some softness on your team, but that is where we stand right now.
