I was just wondering if, say for example, Dion Phaneuf is not signed before the existing CBA expires. Does his first contract follow the old CBA (under which he was drafted), or the new one that is (hopefully) in place.
I would think his contract (whenever signed) is subject to the existing rules at the time it is signed (which in your example would be the new CBA). But the new CBA will likely have a clause that covers this gray area created by the impasse.
He was drafted under the current CBA, unless otherwise negotiated between the NHL & NHLPA... his contract will be along the guidlines of the current CBA
