I think if anything, that game showed what happens when Russia turns it on- like in the 2nd, Sweden had no chance. When all top guns start firing.

I don't think Sweden has much to turn on when Malkin Ovi and Kucherov barrelling down shift after shift. Not like other lines exactly sleepers

I think everyone knows that if Russia kept the foot on the pedal it would be a huge blow out, no matter who is in net.

Russia 5-3 USA for this one. US has a chance but its a bit of a long shot.

Sweden has the best defence in the tournament, of course they can shut down the likes of Malkin, Ovechkin and Kucherov. Some of these Ds are top in the NHL. They completely stopped skating. I'm pretty sure they heard the news of Canada beating the US and decided to just take it easy so as to not get USA in the QFs.

Ofc they started letting in a bit too much, so they went out in the third and made the score more respectable.

If they play again in the semis, the whole game will look like the first period (where it really could've/should've been 3-0 Sweden).

Schneider will probably have to steal one for the US. We've got a pretty strong roster compared to what we usually have, but Russia always owns us in this tournament.

We really could have used a Tkachuk or two up front. We've got loads and loads of little skilled guys (Kane, Gaudreau, Debrincat, Keller, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Fox) but definitely lack grit on the forecheck and a tough net front presence.

We also could have desperately used Slavin, Jones, and Pesce.

Jones - Werenski
Slavin - Pesce
Suter - Hanifin

That would have been quite legitimate.

Andronov killed Sweden's centers at faceoffs, was good to great on the penalty kill, and did his 4th line job at the boards.

Khafizullin hasn't done anything wrong as a 7th defenceman.

You were saying?
I was saying that Russia does not consist of NHL all-stars. They have 4, 5 if you count Vasilevsky. After that, their roster is nothing special.

Sweden threw that game to get Finland in the QFs. They have a history of throwing games strategically. They'll beat Russia in the semi, when it counts.
Sweden didn't have to throw it to get Finland, they'd have been playing vs Finland even if they had won without a landslide. So you know...

That's one game, where Sweden wan't exactly motivated and Russia scored pretty muched everything they tried. It doesn't happen often in hockey. Entire game had 4 hits from team Sweden, enough said, they played with almost zero intensity from the 2nd period.

1st period btw Sweden was much better.

To say that a team with 16 World Champions has no chance is bizzare anyway.

It seems like a very sore loser excuse to say they weren't trying when they were clearly dominated. Sometimes that can be an excuse, but clearly not in this case- everyone saw the domination.

And it was aslo very obvious that the goals they scored in the 3rd were because Russia relaxed, not because Sweden were doing something amazing.

You doubt that Sweden can beat Russia? It's because of Zub?
Everybody can beat anybody in one game, but you just let some hurt feelings show because Team Sweden NHL All-Stars don't get enough praise in your opinion.

Outside of that are not stars but premium world class players (Anisimov, Dadonov...) and talented younger players (Kaprizov, Gusev Barabanov, Sergachyov) and Andronov line you mention will easily make one of the best checking lines in the NHL, especially with Kovalchuk.

That's an almost perfect team composition of Stars, Good players, Specialists and future talents. This is the deepest team Russia has had since the early 90's and you seem like you're jealous of that.

Sweden and Russia will be blown out every year after this. Finland will have all that young core with huge amount of junior golds. Rantanen, Kakko, Aho, Laine, Barkov, Kapanen, Jokiharju, Heiskanen and so on will be too good with best coaching stuff in the world. Btw. Usa will outsmart Russia today.

Finland will just finally be closer to Russia and Canada, but not better than. It's not like other nations haven't produced any talents in the last 6 years.

Yeah, one can only imagine the scene:

Gronborg: Guys, Canada is winning over USA 2-0 after the 1st, so stop playing hockey, we need to lose this game to get Finns in the quoter!

Players: Of course, boss!

Russia always starts slow. They scored 5 1st period goals in 6 games. Almost every team had a great first period against them. (except Italy, they let 4 goals in first period and lost 0-10 that game).

With that, I think USA can beat Russians only if they score a lot in first.

Let's see how this post ages.:sarcasm:

I especially love how the fan boys(not the regular fans) praise their coaching staff like they have Bowman and Tarasov coaching for them. Read just the same kind of stuff about Sweden's coach recently. Seems like everybody has the best coach in the world. Let's see how that plays out.

But they won t play for Finland. NHL bought finnish hockey. The finns failed the patriotism. USD is more important. This could be a reason that Sweden and Russia in the future still better than the finns.

And Dadonov apparently also doesn't count as a good player. As those 4 players I assume were Kucherov, Ovechkin, Malkin and Kuznetsov.

Tough crowd if this lineup's nothing special.
