Will be a tough game. I think we can do it however. 2-1 my prediction.

Yep, if he's hurt, should be 2-0 France. Or worse.

I'll say France no matter what, but Uruguay is in real tough if Cavani can't go.

I like Cavani, but pretty much everyone else on Uruguay is as dislikable as they come, Suarez most of all.

    Please win, France.

I like both teams, to be honest. I picked France in my bracket so I have to go with them, though if I didn't have a rooting interest (and French last name lol) I may root for Uruguay.

I will say, though, that I hope France scores early, similar to how they did today. This will really open things up and make for a better game.

France is a more talented team, they should win, especially if Cavani cannot go.

Godin-Gimenez will be tough to break. France should attack from the flanks which happens to have Mbappe there. France should win.

I think winner of this matchup wins the world cup.

I like both teams so very hard for me to pick.

    Ill go with Uruguay.

France will break through early and often. I except 2-0/3-1 especially if Cavani is out.

Like Argentina, Uruguay doesn’t have much of a midfield to talk about. Should be a tougher match because they play like a unit, but I think Pogba will dominate ball control here and Giroud will delegate to the wings and away from the killer Uruguayan CB duo.

    I disagree.

If we were talking about Uruguay vs. Saudi Arabia and Egypt, then you'd be correct. The amount of young talent they finally deployed with Torreira, Nandez and Betancur is extremely bright, much more so than a Mascheranosaurus and the corpse of Lucas Biglia, etc (which is a shame because a player like Lo Celso was left to rot on the bench).

I said it in other threads and I'll say it again: that lineup set by Tabarez last game is their best lineup and the one they should have used from the jump.

La Garra Charrua better be in full display if they want to win this one. Can they pull it off? Most def. they can employ anti football frustrating tactics and take it to penalties or punish France on the counter. But the French firepower might prove too much. Either way it’s an interesting match up.

Thing is, Uruguay don't need midfield to win games. Like at Atletico, having "adequate" midfielders, runners, workers and warriors will suffice in such a system if your defense and forwards are world class (and in both Atletico and Uruguay's cases, they are).

Argentina's midfield can neither press, win balls nor play through opposition pressing to get the ball to Messi etc.
Uruguay can do the defensive and ball winning side of things and provide (barely) adequate service to Suarez and Cavani.

That said, if Cavani doesn't play, I don't think Uruguay can take this.
I love that man, he's like Mandzukic. Only not as dirty and better at football.

If France scores first this could be a fun game. If Uruguay score first then prepare for a snoozefest.

No muscle rupture for Cavani. Still in pain though and appears doubtful for friday.

France should roll with Mbappe and Griezmann playing off of Giroud again. Strong hold-up play against two top CBs, and allow them to abuse the wingbacks.

France is going to destroy Uruguay on their way to winning the Cup. Too much firepower.

Doubt France is going to destroy anybody. Close win maybe.

If France wins, they won't have played an evening game until the semis.

Uruguay's midfield is light years ahead of Argentina's.

I feel like Uruguay is exactly the kind of team that could give France some real problems. Very structured, disciplined, and have a midfield designed to suffocate the game which they bypass for quick counters. France are going to need to be at their best to unlock the Uruguayan defence, and Muslera as well is underrated...never really understood why he ended up in Turkey and not a bigger team. Obviously without Cavani they'll be less dangerous (if he's out), but you never know when Suarez is going to have a world beater of a game (he still has it in him at times).
