Risto has flaws, but he’s a legit NHLer. Why in the world would they trade him for a long shot project in Puljujarvi? And what exactly does Gagner add in value to this deal?

This isn't a fair deal for Buffalo.

For this to be enticing you'd have to offer a really good pick or a really good prospect.

Puljujarvi is the plus in such a trade, not the main part.

Gagner is a cap dump at the point.

So the main piece really has yet to be offered. No reason the Sabres do this.

The problem with that offer is that we wouldn’t have the cap space to sign Puljurjarvi. But the value is probably fine.
