With the recent slump, and somewhat of a dry spell in the scoring dept for the Habs, some fans have been scapegoating the likes of Edmundson, Chiarot, etc. as acquisitions that didn't fit the ultimate needs of the Habs as a new age, modern, mobile d man.

The Habs appear set up front, but could use a #3 D man (my opinion) that is a younger Petry in terms of mobility and productivity.

So, what options are out there and what are some viable trade scenarios?

I agree that a PMD is lacking. Not a fan of the Edmunson signing though he has been ok. They needed a PP QB and instead traded for a stay at home D.

Habs need a PP specailist on the backend.

With the exception of Petry and Romanov, Habs dmen are too one dimensional at moving the puck. Mete has capability but no compete. Kulak has zero consistency.

I can't believe this guy fizzled out so bad. Montreal needs exactly what Mete was supposed to be.

Montreal won't be trading for any Defenceman.

I think Jusso Riikola could fit the bill for the Habs. Young, PMD, has been on the 3rd pairing but his play suggests he could morph into a #4 given the chance. Signed this and next year to a reasonable deal. With the Pens having 9 or so NHL dmen and picking up Freidman, I could see him being available. Listed on LTIR but is skating with the team so I imagine the return in imminent.

With the Zucker injury, Pens need a good bottom/mid-6 forward for depth, especially on the LW.

Would something like Riikola+3rd (or depth forward like Sceviour or Jankowski) for Lehkonen work?

Rikola had proven nothing in the NhL. We need a PP specialist. Rikola doesn’t have the skills or pedigree.

I would offer Byron for him.

Colin Miller would give you PM, blue line bombs, and fairly competent PP support.

Really really good PMD are hard to come by.

Rikola, the person you are referring to, maybe not.

Jusso Riikola has played on our 2nd PP in the games he's played as the point. I wouldn't say he's a "specialist" but he's certainly familiar with being on a PP.

I picked Lehkonen because he's on your forth line and on pace for 20pts. Seems like the exact value for a 3rd pairing PMD who are of similar ages. The balance being equal looking at age vs cap hit.

Will Butcher is actually excellent at running a power play - very good offensive instincts. He ran ours in his rookie year, but has since gotten a bit lost in the fray with the emergence of Severson and the acquisition of Subban.

Now that Ty Smith has made a name for himself, Butcher is fighting for playing time. He does have 3 points in 3 games, though.

Thoughts?
