Motivate the kids, possibly sign a 2 way deal. I think him and Jimmy Hayes are in the same boat here.

Guess he's there to make competition at camp.

ETA: Guess he could get an AHL contract too. Doubt he will make the NHL team, but I suppose we never know.

I know he has been floating around from team to team but have not watched him since he was a Ranger 6 years ago. Hopefully he can play well enough to earn an AHL contract.

Wee are putting together a Defense of former 1st round bust...Moore, Mueller, Erixon.

Should'a kept Larsson. ;)

I like how we couldn't say that Merrill wasn't good until he hit 200 games (or even now, apparently) but Mueller and his 54 games are definitely a bust

Erixon at one point was a very productive offensive defenseman in the AHL.

Last 2 years not so much.

Jon Merrill in 27 AHL games accomplished more than Mueller in 124...not even debatable in any shape way or form.

When Merrill was 21 years old he played 52 NHL games averaged 19 minutes and had 11 points... Mueller is 22 and former 1st round bust who had struggled in the AHL at various points, has 6 points in 54 NHL games and has averaged 15 minutes...

Funny Merrill is garbage according to some yet we have high hopes for this because Shero spent a 2nd...freaking joke.

You're right Jim. Instead of trying to remain positive we should just **** all over the move.

Nah. We can just be quiet, wait and see and not pencil him into the top 4. And not pretend he'll be better than Merrill anytime soon.

That seems more than reasonable? No?

Merrill is going to look great in a KHL jersey. Maybe he'll outplay Nigel Dawes

Maybe we can give Mueller more than 50 some games (none of them even with us) before labeling him as a bust. That seems equally reasonable? No?

Its almost as if the player had much better veterans ahead of him playing at the NHL level in San Jose and had a coach who has a propensity for not being good for young players....

oh my God! Merrill had 11 points though!!

I think you get 4 years from your draft year going on 5th...after being a 18th overall pick... blew through his ELC and barely has played half a season, cant earn a spot on a NHL team, struggled at points in the AHL... expectations clearly haven't been met.

If that is not a bust to you ok...but this is clearly a reclamation project...a reclamation project of a former 18th overall says bust to me.

I'm not saying he can't be a serviceable player for us...just if you ask San Jose, I think they have classified this as a bust long before the trade ever happened.
