if players impress in the camps do they get a spot in the the nhl roster/ahl roster??

Depends on their age/nationality/motivation. Some examples:

Calle Ridderwall completed four years at Notre Dame, so if he were to impress he'd likely get a two way deal.

Last year, a guy like Pat Nagle (NCAA junior at Ferris State) did pretty well at Dallas' summer prospect camp. But if he were to sign, he would have had to give up his senior season in order to sign a pro contract. Instead, he went back to school and signed with Tampa.

There's also a window for undrafted CHL players still eligible for 2012 to sign during the summer. Last year, San Jose invited J.P. Anderson and Michael Sgarbossa to their summer camps after both guys went undrafted in the 2010 Draft. They impressed and the Sharks signed both to ELC, but were eligible to go back to the OHL.

On the flipside, you can't sign a European trained prospect like that. A couple years ago, the Kings had Czech D Radko Gudas in their camp and he impressed. Rumor was that LA would have liked to have signed him on the spot, but rules in the CBA prohibit that. Gudas then played the next season in the WHL and was drafted in the 3rd round by Tampa in the next draft.

More to come...

DISCUSSION:
What players look good?
What players look bad?
What players are meeting expectations?
What players are surprising/disappointing?

Montreal actually has 3 camps.
They already had one, a second is this week and then they have a 3rd in Sept.

He was lights out for Erie this year... I hope Buffalo gives him a fair shake and I'm bit disappointed the Rangers didn't invite him, but they have good depth anyway.

Yeah, I'm sure they got a lot of time in viewing him. They already plucked Szydlowski for AHL-level depth and may well have been/are interested in Sadikov as a net option too. They had a lot of eyes in Erie for the Spits series (I was at Game 2 and saw a number of their people), so it seems they've got a book on him. With the possible depth openings in Rochester this season, any sort of offensive center would be welcome.

Knights' 'tender Houser had the save of the day today with a glovehand reaction stop on Ennis in tight. And Ennis was making everyone look like a shooter-tuter before that.

Chicago & Florida have invitee lists that smell of penny pinching.

Local boys & NCAA players............zero expense (airfare/hotel etc) for the NHL club.

Hawks have only 1 player outside of that category.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

Old news.......that still doesn't mean you are smart to put $ ahead of everything else.

8 hours is old news?

Prospects should be given as much time as possible to learn the system. Why should they spend 5 days teaching guys the system that have no real shot at a contract?

Rather see Flick and Johns get that time.

The Hawks announced this after last years camp so yes it is old news.

Do you honestly believe that all of the invitees were the best players available?
If you are going to invite players you might as well invite the best available vs the kid down the street.
