If only I could put in Ehn for Abdelkader… I am OK with this lineup. The only thing I would like to switch is having Filppula on the 2nd line as a center for Athanasiou and Hirose, and then pray to the hockey Gods that Svechnikov is able to somehow be good enough to be on a line with Nielsen and Zadina.

The reality is that Flip is going to get stuck with Abby and Helm as wingers, and finish the season with 12 assists because I really doubt Abby or Helm get more than 6 goals apiece.

Almost exactly what I envision, too

Zadina might not make it out of camp, so just slot up someone from line 4 and put Ehn into the line up

Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha
Athanasiou - Nielsen - Hirose
Helm - Filppula - Glendening
De la Rose - Ehn - Abdelkader

Dekeyser - Green
Nemeth - Hronek
Daley - Bowey
Ericsson

Howard
Bernier

Give it to 2 weeks and I'm sure half of GR will be called up to fill in for injuries so guys like Zadina, Rasmussen, Cholowski, Kaski, etc. will get a good amount of opportunity still

I could see swapping Green and Hronek but otherwise it's about what I'd expect.

Hopefully Abdelkader will be stapled to that 4th line or the press box, fighting for his job against the likes of Ehn.

are DeLaRose , Green and Kronwall will play ?
Rasmussen should be with big club
I would put Zadina , Veleno , Svechnikov in GR and let them compete for the roster spot with wings.

Contingent on training camp, but I could easily see Helm being bumped to the fourth line to incorporate Svechnikov, Rasmussen, or even Veleno if things play out favorably. Ehn and DLR are no major concerns, I could send Ehn to GR and healthy scratch Abdelkader, or cut DLR and open a spot that way.

Has to be a clear cut "he's ready" situation, and I don't anticipate that situation plays out, but I could definitely see it.

If you bump Filppula to the 2C to maximize offense, and slide Nielsen to 3C to center and mentor Veleno and Zadina, or Svechnikov and Zadina, I think there is value to be had, they just need to blow the doors off in camp.

On WIIM, someone posted that Nielsen's GAR was 3x that of Filp's last year...I didn't confirm it though. I think Nielsen's familiarity with AA & Hirose and their chemistry should weigh heavily. Flip as 3C. They're virtually the same player otherwise, so they should be interchangeable.

I think Filppula is more offensively inclined as a pass first player, where Nielsen has gradually declined into a defensive specialist.

They are interchangeable at the end of the day, but I don’t think their skills play remotely close to the same.

IMO, the projection is pretty spot on. I think there's the potential for some changes between now a the start of the season:

-If Kronwall returns, Cholowski starts in GR and Kronwall gets the spot he's in
-If Yzerman brings in a RW like has been reported, it pushes Zadina down to start in GR

I would also think Ehn, Zadina and Cholowski's (if Kronwall doesn't return) spots are open for competition from guys like Svechnikov, Rasmussen, Turgeon, Kaski, etc. if they have a really good camp/pre-season.

I also still have some weird feeling that the coaching staff overvalues Joe Hickett's "try hardness" enough to make him a #7/8D spare part on the NHL roster... I'll feel better about it when he's waived and back in GR though, I hope... I guess the silver lining there would be that if Blashill wants to play Hronek and 5 of the vets every night, Hicketts is a better choice to sit most nights in the pressbox than Cholowski? In addition to that, it would also leave open a spot in GR for a younger D with more upside?

Rasmussen should be in the NHL, hopefully.

That is a 2nd or 3rd last in the NHL roster.
Yeah just like the last 2 years we will depend on improvements from young players to make any kind of attempt to escape the bottom 5. Based on the end of last season, there is some potential for a roster that includes Hirose and Hronek as full-timers. If Zadina can be a legit rookie (40+ points), and someone else, such as Rasmussen/Cholowski/Svechnikov can surprise with a good season we could be better than we look on paper.
Most likely not though, and we will be very vulnerable to injuries.

We could use some more RH forwards. We only have Glendening. I still can’t believe we have 3 more years left with Nielsen and he’s already 35. One of the worst Holland signings

Lineups without Rasmussen in them are sub-optimal. What's the point of him playing in GR? He'll do nothing down there but pick up bad habits.
Also, that roster is something that will get about 30-35 wins. The D is bad and brittle, and the scoring is left to too few.

Let's keep in mind that Bertuzzi and Hirose ruined the tank last year, and most of these kids skate hard every night. I'm thinking 5th or 6th, not that it makes a whole lot of difference aside from people complaining about the team not tanking hard enough at the end of the season again.

Why would he pick up bad habits, it is literally a league for development. The only reason he was in NHL last season was because he couldn't be in the NHL

Part of it too is other teams unexpectedly sucking a lot more than they should (I'm looking at you Kings).

So they have Hirose listed as LW only, but they put him on the right wing, yet AA is listed as being able to play all positions and is placed on the left wing of the same line?

There are teams like that every year. That's why I put the Wings 5th/6th because some veteran teams quit trying when they miss the playoffs. Other than Abby, BigE, and sometimes Mantha, I expect the Wings to skate hard every night regardless of their position in the standings.

So they have Hirose listed as LW only, but they put him on the right wing, yet AA is listed as being able to play all positions and is placed on the left wing of the same line?
If AA is playing winger, I'd like to see him try playing the off wing to take advantage of his one timer.

AA was playing center at the end of the season, but I assume it'll be AA left, Hirose right, and Flip/Franz in z middle.

Pretty close to what my roster would be. Guessing a lot of the vets get "injuries" throughout the year so younger players get a lot of looks
