who you got?

as much as Im inclined to say Pronger, his prime was all over the place (Hart in 2000, playoff warrior in 06/07/10).

Stevens prime was somewhere around 98-2002

Almost voted Chara due to longevity of prime. Ended up picking Pronger - but honestly i think Chara maybe overtakes him for longevity

Pronger had the highest peak by far. I take Pronger's peak over Chara's longevity of prime.

HOWEVER, there are some eras where I would take Chara's longevity of prime. For instance, current Chara would still be a Norris contender in the clutch and grab era.

Pronger was one of the most dominant NHL players I've ever seen in his prime. The guy not only took over games and played 33-36 minutes a game in the playoffs but he lived rent free in the minds of his opponents and haunted their dreams at night.

Pronger, then Stevens, then Chara.

Post-lockout Chris Pronger might be the #1 skater I'd take for a playoff run since prime Mario Lemieux. I don't count Patrick Roy because he's a goalie. Sidney Crosby would be in the mix.

I love Chara but it's Pronger. Only D-man other than Orr in the post-expansion era to win an MVP.

*on a side note, just looking at post-67 Hart winners, there are as many LWers who have won the award since then (two OV and Hall) as there have been D-men (Orr, Pronger). 3 goalies have won it since then (Price, Theodore, Hasek). The Hart Trophy has traditionally been the realm of centers and RWers.

Pronger
Stevens
Chara

I could maybe see an argument for Stevens over Pronger.

Peak Pronger was the best defensemen since peak Bourque. He was utterly dominant.

I'll easily take Chara's career though along with the leadership.

This one isn’t close and I don’t need to see the results to know that.

People forget how good the best version of Chris Pronger was. Norris, Hart, etc. Just an animal during his Blues days.

except his best playoff years were in 06 (EDM), 07 (ANA), 2010 (PHI).... and those were historic playoff performances

so what was more valuable? was his peak in 2000-01 or 06-07?

You've gotta ask yourself:

If you took Prime Chara and gave him Pronger's spot on the Oilers, do they not only make the playoffs but also make it to the SC finals?

Stevens doesn't even belong in this conversation.

Then how does Chara belong in the conversation? They each have one trophy, and Stevens won a Conn Smythe on a very good Devils roster. I get that he played in the 80's & 90's so his points might be slightly inflated. I voted Pronger, but people in this thread are sleeping on Stevens. His competition for the Norris was a hell of a lot harder than Chara's and it's not like Chara has multiple Norris'
