As a Ranger fan, I’d be content with a 1 and a team’s top 5 prospect. Asking for a young roster player too seems a bit much, for a rental.

I feel like that was more Buffalo underselling Kane if anything. The Rangers were able to get more out of a declining Rick Nash then the Sabres did for Kane.

I think Hayes is the only rental outside of Duchene, Stone, and Panarin that can return a 1st round pick. Options at center are quite slim this year compared to wingers

I'm sure it's negotiable. Sabres were reportedly looking for the same return for E. Kane last year. He got moved...but for a conditional 1st/2nd + a 4th + an AHLer.
