Price isn't taking a discount to play in Montreal.

Of course not... It's a rare occurrence, and only happens when the star player has complete trust in management & the teams chance to win

No star player in their right mind would take a discount to play for a GM like bargainbin

That quote is a whole lot of nothingness.

Everyone knows that opening offers are traditionally a higher number just like counter-offers are lowballers. Once the grandstanding subsides, the parties make headway toward the other side and a happy medium is found -- and no one will remember whatever trumped up figure was first bandied about.

Price will not get what he deserves only what his agent can negotiate.

I'm torn here. I fear the cap implications, but I never want to see Price wearing another jersey. Let us pray that a few diamonds emerge from our system and excel on ELCs. Lol.

As an aside, we're talking about $10 million AAV and yet 20 years ago the Fedorovs and Sakics were making almost 30 million in today's dollars!

because he knows that if he takes 10+ million, it would make it a lot harder for the habs to win a cup

He's about to turn 30. Maybe he looks around, and doesn't see a Cup in that room.

He'll should sign, after he gets signs that MB is gearing up for the Cup.
Otherwise he should walk.

The trading market right now isnt favorable for goaltenders, even Price couldnt return a very good package, add to this that while we have some promising young goaltenders in the pipeline, there is no guarentee that at least one of them will become a great starter in the NHL.. I say sign Price long term and pay him for what he is, the best goaltender in the world. After 2-3 years, you reassess where the team is about with Price in the net and where our young promising goaltenders are in their development and then you take the proper decision, keep him or get rid of that contract to free some money to spend elsewhere..

This is a weird one because the UFA market is not all that great for Price anyway. The teams that could use him to be over the hump and win a cup are already cap strapped. The teams that are already contender have their goaler, and they don't have the cap either. So he's left with teams that are so far away from contending that he won't make a difference. If he want max money, he have to play on a very bad team for the rest of his career. You might as well do that in Montreal and save yourself the trouble of moving.

There will always be teams in the market for arguably the best goalie. Philly would have no issues throwing money his way.

My team has the space, and with him a parade route could be planned.
Maybe NJ, or Philly. with their crop of youth too-though they are further away. The Pens could lose Fleury's contract.
