This is like DJB's but took Stone off the top line to start. If he works his way up way great but ill pul Zib and Michalek over him.

Ryan - Spezza -Michalek
Mac - Turris - Zib
Greening - Pageau - Stone
Condra - Smith - Neil

If Stone makes the squad out of camp then I would guess that Murray starts seriously looking at packaging some young forwards for a top-4 D-man...Phoenix?

Still overflowing with guys expected to play. There is no spezza, turris, smith, michalek, condra, hoffman here. Figure it out this year, make some trades

I think I'd rather see Greening up with Spezza and Ryan. At least he brings an element of speed to the line, but can also bring that grit element. As an aside, I don't think Stone makes the team out of camp this year, since he was hurt in the playoffs and can't use the summer to improve his skating.

Greening - Spezza - Ryan
MacArthur - Turris - Michalek
Conacher - Zibanejad - Condra
Pageau - Smith - Neil
Kassian - JOB

Stone did not impress me at all last season in the NHL. Still looks painfully slow, and he hasn't had a chance to work on it because of that high ankle sprain.

Unless Greening decides to play every game instead of 1 out of 10 he may be the odd man out. Has the potential to be a bertuzzi type player if he only showed up every game. I believe management has the same opinion.

Would like to see Hoffman/Conacher-Spezza-Ryan

I've written so many different line combos. Its hard fitting in Hoffman :(

Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Conacher-Zib-Ryan
Macarthur-Turris-Pageau
Hoffman/Condra-Smith-Neil

Greening could be a Bertuzzi type player? Those two names shouldn't be in the same sentence.

Bertuzzi couldn't skate to save his life, fought (sometimes), hit players and took a fair amount of PIMs. You know, like a proto-typical power forward. At least up to the Moore incident. After that he was just a dime a dozen, old 3/4th line winger.

How ANY of that correlates to Greening, I don't know. I might be watching a different team than you, so I could be missing something.

Any ideas how it will look?

Unit 1
Ryan-Spezza-Michalek
Cowen-Karlsson

Unit 2
McArthur-Turris-Zibanejad?
Wiercioch-Gryba??

Greening and Conacher could fit in as well, Neil tends to get time in front of the net every year, and Phillips might get time instead of Gryba I guess... Not sure if Zibanejad could work on the RW, he'd likely get his onetimer off a lot better on the LW, so we could swap him and McArthur and have them both play off wing.

edit: probably should have just posted this in the line combos thread, feel free to move it.

please god no. id rather have phillips on the pp and he is awful. PP \d should be

This is how I'd start the season, I think Greening will have a bounce back year and will drive the forecheck on that line.

That's going to become a pretty incredible line...

They want Stone with Spezza been saying that for a while and the team opened two RW spots... Stone is now a top six winger on this team.

They scratched Conacher in the playoffs for him to play with Spezza...

Ryan natual LW... Big time goal scorer.

All three players are big... It's a sick NA line.

Ryan - 35-40G 70-80Pts
Spezza - 30G 80-90Pts
Stone - 25-30G 60-70Pts

I must admit that Stone in front of the net on that line would be great but can he produce like mad right away?

I haven't seen a lot of hype for Stone in a while but he is a top-prospect, we have seemed to forget it. Maybe that's what happens when you have so many great prospects and young players

I also heard that Ryan likes to play the right wing and he can carry his own line, so let me try something

Michalek-Spezza-Stone
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Conacher-Zibanejad-Condra
Greening-Pageau-Neil
Smith-Kassian

That's if they really want to play Stone with Spezza. If not, they have to try Zibanejad on the Wing :

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Zibanejad
Conacher-Pageau-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil
Kassian

Hard to say what will happen

Our 26 player "core" mostly homegrown group that is the present and future.

Condra RW 26
Kassian LW 26
Smith C 25
Gryba RD 25
Karlsson RD 23
Turris C 23
Conacher LW 23
Hoffman C/W 23
Wiercioch LD 22
Cowen LD 22
Stone RW 21
Lehner G 21
Pageau C 20
Zibanejad C/LW 20
Puempel LW 20
Ceci RD 19
Lazar C/W 18

To start the year:

Conacher Spezza Ryan
MacArthur Turris Michalek
Greening Zibanejad Smith
Condra Pageau Neil
Kassian Hoffman
Call-ups: Stone Prince Puempel Dziurzynski Cowick

Methot Karlsson
Cowen Gryba
Phillips Wiercioch
Borowiecki
Call ups: Ceci Sado

Trade Da Costa and O'Brien

Resign:
Cowen 4 years $12.8 million $3.2M cap
Condra 3 years $5.4 million $1.8M cap
Wiercioch 2 years $2.8 million $1.4M cap
Hoffman 2 years $1.6 million $800K cap
Borowiecki 1 year $775K cap

Guys in their final year now to resign:

Lehner: Try for 1 year at $2 million or 2 years for $5 million. It is an overpay for what he has done so far but could end up a deal for the Senators and then they will guarantee having Lehner for 2 or 3 years as Anderson's contract is done in 2 years. IF he wants for $$$$ I would negotiate later. If he wants more term I would be intrigued and maybe give more $$$ for more term now.

30 forwards
All young to relatively young (oldest player is spezza at 30)
In 2-3 years they should all be ready and challenging for 1 of 12(13) spots. Spezza will be 33
These line combinations aren't anything but positions filled.

Taking into consideration age, injuries, ability, which 13 forwards would you want in/out of the lineup in 2-3 yrs?
Anyone you want traded away to address other weaknesses?

Hoffman-SPEZZA-Michalek
Smith-TURRIS-Ryan
Puempel-LAZAR-Condra
Prince-ZIBANEJAD-Stone
Greening-PAGEAU-Dunn
Conacher-MAIDENS-Robinson
MacArthur-OBRIEN-Neil
Schneider-GRANT-Petersson
Dziurzynski-DACOSTA-Cowick
Kramer-CULEK-Kassian

michalek, kassian, greening, will be ufas after this yr. Re-sign?
spezza, ryan, macarthur the year after.

What about Jagr? He is the only true top 6 forward left. He played well last year and was not injured or anything. Was good in the playoffs too, despite not being as productive as he could have been. Was a bit snake bitten, and was still dangerous as a secondary threat for the Bruins. Was a leader at the teams he has played at recently. Mentoring young players, holding midnight practice sessions. He is old but he is still quite productive. Was on about a 30 goal and 60 point pace last season. That is very good in today's NHL. 1 year $4.6 million. Same as last year for him. Makes us a true contender and we have lots of assets and cap room at the deadline. Hopefully it is doable under our internal cap.

Michalek Spezza Ryan - True big #1 Line
MacArthur Turris Jagr - Good second scoring line
Greening Zibanejad Neil - Physical punishing line that can score too
Smith Pageau Condra - Can check and score
Conacher Kassian Hoffman

Imagine if you wanted to be physical in the playoffs and you could send out Methot and Cowen or Gryba and the Zibanejad line?

Karlsson will spend most of the time he has on the ice with Spezza, Ryan and Jagr!

Behind you, look out
People are penciling in Lazar over Zibby and Turris. New toy syndrome has struck hard.

If Lazar was top line talent, he would have gone much higher.

Looking at the lines people are making, i think we will be a better team next year even without alfie. What we lost in leadership we gained in offensive power.
