Pickard has been, dare I say it, good tonight.

Saarriijjarrvvii looked pretty good for the most part. Ras looked good. JV was decent. Zed needs... something, I don't know what. He's just short of putting it together, but I'll be damned if I know what it is.

Svechnikov needs AHL time. All of the other AHL-bound guys looked, well, AHL-bound.

I gotta say the line up against Pitts the young guys actually held their own and tonight they played very well. Some obvious mistakes but that's part of the learning process. I'd say this bodes well for our future, it's looking bright!

Cholo should be on this team 100%. Ideally the d-pairs should be:

Nemeth- green
DK- hronek
Cholo- bowey

He had an okay first half. He was productive enough offensively people didn't notice how bad he was defensively. When the offense evaporated all was left was a defensive blackhole.

And did St Louis play only 1 roster d-man tonight?

its surprising to you a 20 year old kid got owned on d his first season up in bigs , ecspecially without any solid vet d to back him up on a roster that was getting bombed by entire league ? which redwing dman looked good last season ? shouldnt have been up in the first place . mean while b4 he wore down he was making lots of excellent plays with the puck and showing that hes a major league skater .

I thought this was a good game for most of the team, even if St. Louis was only half regulars.

Mantha, Rasmussen, Bertuzzi and Cholowksi were particularly good. When did Mike change his name to Dennis? I am sure some on here are going to run down Zadina again, but what I see from him, is not a kid who looks lost out there, but a kid who is just executing poorly on what I see at the very least as a decent hockey IQ. He seems to know what to do and when, he just needs to execute, and needs to gain confidence and realize what a lot of rookies need to realize, that they have a lot more time than they think to make plays. He tries to rush things too much, and needs to slow it down a bit.

He looked scared to touch anyone. Another season in the AHL won't hurt. Otherwise he'll wind up being another Doogie Hamilton, and run away from the puck any time someone gets close.

Lots of Dmen don't play physically, and that is not his game, and he doesn't look scared to me anyhow.

So true. Several people said last pre-season that Hronek would surpass Kronwall, Ericsson, and Daley in effectiveness over the year- which he did. Same thing with Cholo. The Wings are a better team without E and Daley, everyone knows it.

The problem I see with the 3rd pairing is Bowey's head is a bag of rocks. I guess let them make their own way... they'll survive.

It can be frustrating but the Wings are in no rush. Contracts must be honored. As usual there should be a lot of call-ups. Green is a huge question mark for me. When's the last time he played again?

It could be a Hicketts/McIllrath style pairing like last years opening night.
