Is anyone going?

I'll probably go to the red carpet but I've never felt a desire to spend money to watch the awards show live when I barely want to watch it on TV.

I'd probably go if it was an evening event. 4:30 is a little too early. As much as I'd like to be a part of that crowd, it's just not logistically good for me to have to knock out at 2:30 for an event like that.

Like I said, 7:00-7:30 and I'm 100% in.

I ended up going to the Awards show a couple years back since I happened to be in town. That was the year that they thought it'd be a good idea for Daughtry to play a full length set after the awards show.

Naturally everybody started leaving, so they told folks to come down to the floor for the concert. After one song, I decided to leave. I asked the nearest security guard where the nearest exit was and she pointed towards one area.

Turned out that was the door to the backstage area. So I ended up getting to rub elbows with everybody for the next hour or so. Since I was silly enough to wear a suit, perhaps the security guard assumed I was part of the NHL contingent.

I tried to play it cool and not take too many photos...

Perhaps the most amusing part was leaving the backstage area. There was a private escalator back into the MGM and there was still a gauntlet of fans waiting for autographs. I come up the escalator and everybody looks at me with a "Who the hell is this guy?" glare.

My best story is last year. Waited for autographs at the red carpet. Ducked off before it started to indeed find out the Vegas expansion was official. Came back to get a bunch of autographs, the highlight being Crosby leaving the cup with a handler to sign FOUR autographs. One of them went to me.

EDIT: And of course now I can't FIND Crosby's autographed card anywhere.

So what exactly is the expansion draft event going to be? Maybe at the arena and they are going to broadcast the picks over the loudspeakers?

If it's anything like that I'd rather watch at home lol.

Yeah I don't really see the excitement of it. The Awards suck and I'm guessing it will just be McPhee up on stage reading off a list of the players taken, which we'll probably already know beforehand thanks to the insiders.

Since the place will be wired for a broadcast, I imagine the event will be pretty decently produced.

I'm sure there's going to be video packages, perhaps some people live.
