Feel free to speak as boldly or realistic as you like, and make as many as you like. Will be interesting to revisit this at seasons end.

Here are some of mine:

Makar flirts with 50 points
Girard hits 40 points
Burakovsky scores 20 goals
Grubauer struggles until Christmas, rights the ship in the second half
Connauton will be a regular on our bottom pair.
PE Bellemare will be a fan favourite
Joonas donskoi will spend more time in the top 6 than Tyson Jost

EDITED: forgot one - Byram gets sent down after 9 games and Connor Timmins is an NHL regular come playoff time

- Makar gets to 50 points, and people forget all about Barrie.
- Byram gets sent to the WHL before the season starts, gets a callup halfway through the season.
- Graves is in the opening night lineup, plays as the 6/7 D all year.
- Burakovsky starts out on the second line, is inconsistent, and is replaced by a tandem of Donskoi/Wilson/Compher in that spot for the rest of the year. Ends up a healthy scratch by January.
- Wilson stays healthy and has a great season, redeeming himself from the whipping boy chair.
- Timmins starts in the AHL, but earns a callup partway through and impressed. He won't be ready for a top 4 role but locks down the third pairing spot by the end of the season.
- Connauton is waived partway through the year as younger talent forces him out of the lineup.
- Barberio and Greer are put on waivers out of camp. Greer passes through, Barberio doesn't.
- Avs win second in the division, and go on to win the cup in a Cinderella run. MacKinnon with the Conn Smythe. :D

Team prediction:

The Avs finish with a better record than they did last season and end up third in the division. In the playoffs they knock off their first round opponent, but fall in the second round... again.

Player Predictions:

- MacKinnon has another excellent season finishing with 94 points.

- Rantanen lives up to his soon to be very large contract with an 85 point year.

- Landeskog plays on the first and second line and sees a drop in production to 68 points.

- Kadri finishes with 55 points and 0 suspensions

- Compher proves he’s going to be a fixture with the Avs for several more years putting up more than 20 goals and 40 points.

- Donskoi bounces around on all top three lines and ends the year with 39 points.

- Jost breaks through and gets 46 points.

- Burakovsky: I have no f***ing clue.

- Makar becomes the Avs clear number one defenceman and ends the year with 54 points.

- Girard goes for 36 points while playing reasonably well in his own zone.

- Johnson starts the season slow, but comes on strong to prove he is still a legitimate top-4 defenceman

- Zadorov shows no growth and plays very similar to the way he did last year

- Cole has a rough season after his surgery in the offseason and doesn’t regain any kind of form until late in the season.

- Byram makes the team and picks up 20 points, while getting some time on the second PP.

- Gru gives the middle finger to everyone who thinks he can’t be a number one and holds down the top spot between the pipes.

- we win the cup in the 2020-2021 season, or the 2021-2022 season.

- Makar doesn't hit 40 points
- Burakovsky struggles as expected
- Grubauer struggles but Francouz holds the fort down decently well for the season
- Zadorov struggles and is traded by the deadline
- Jost again proves he's simply not a Top 6 forward
- Tyson Barrie proves to be a huge loss, Avs struggle defensively to move the puck efficiently... ultimately miss playoffs.

Bolded is very bold because it's not possible unless about 10 dmen get hurt at the same time.

Am I misunderstanding something here? He can be recalled from the WHL at any time, can't he?

No he can't. Not if he starts the season in the CHL or is sent down to the CHL. Once he's there he's there until his CHL team finishes its season.

No once he gets sent back he can't be recalled other than as a emergency injury replacement which really only has a chance of happening with goalies. Once his year is over he could be called up but good chance the Giants will be playing longer than the Avs.

Avs' struggle mightily out of the gate due to defense and goaltending.
End up missing playoffs.

We see more MacKinnon frustration and drama throughout the season. Main board threads start popping up left and right from Leaf fans in attempt to reunite Nathan with his bestfriend in Toronto for Nylander.

- Cole comes back from injury, but can’t outplay Connauton and becomes our 7th dman
- Grubauer has an okay year, gets about 45 games. He is outplayed by Franc, but keeps the starting job
- Makar plays on par with a good #3 dman with flashes of brilliance and about 40 points
- Johnson has a bounce back year until he suffers a broken arm in mid January
- Zadorov actually looks good at the beginning of the season and solidifies himself as a solid shutdown dman
- Jost gets traded in a package to bring in a stud to play with Kadri on the second line
- Donskoi and Compher find great chemistry and each put up 35+ points
- Burakovsky gets a shot on the top line to start the season, ultimately fails and bounces from 2nd to 4th line all year
- Avs make first wildcard
- Avs lose to the Stars in playoffs

I read your post and was like, WTF? Then scrolled back up and saw the thread title. Phew. Hope your scenario doesn't occur but stat guys will tell you it's just a matter of odds. I'd say the odds of the Avs missing the POs is 20% or less. The odds of the Avs coming out flat would be higher just because of all the new players and there will be a lot of experimentation with match-ups.

I'll say first that I think we are an improved team for the future after the summer's moves.

But, I suspect next year we're in relatively the same position battling for #3 in the central and the wildcard spots at the end of the season. Ultimately, I suspect we do end up making the playoffs, and then; anything can happen!

MacKinnon is MacKinnon, I think he ends up with 102 pts. One of 4 guys to get over 100. Pretty much the standard of him carrying us.

Rantanen declines a bit to around 75-80 pts, mainly due a lingering contract issue and being bounced around the lineup to find the right combo.

Landy declines as well to around 65 points, not a bad thing but similar to Rantanen, gets moved around a lot.

Kadri proves to be exactly the 2C we want around 55 pts.

Jost still struggles to put up points but is a reliable two way guy.

Compher has a big year goes 20+20 or more, is the perfect Soderberg replacement.

Burakovsky surprises and goes 25+20.

Donskoi does well all around but only gives us around 35 points.

The other forwards give about their career averages.

Makar is what we are hoping for, has a huge year 50+ points and at times looks flat out dominant. Wins Calder.

Girard has a solid year 35 points, and is a very solid all around dman.

EJ bounces back, has a decent year proves he can still be top 4.

Z gives his usual performance. Some good, some bad.

Cole looks bad coming off injury.

Connauton is meh.

Rosen surprises, makes the team and provides a decent 3rd pairing option.

Byram is sent back to juniors to dominate.

Graves replaces Connauton, by game 10. Then he is replaced by Timmins around mid season.

Grubauer has his ups and downs but overall has a quality season around a .920 save percentage.

Frank does fine in a backup role, nothing special but nothing bad.

Overall team finishes 7th in the conference. Has a 2nd round exit to Dallas or St Louis after beating Nashville round 1.

Ok I'll give this a whirl.

MacK ends the season with 45 goals 110 points and leads the NHL

Rants gets 35 goals and 85 points setting himself up for a massive raise in the offseason.

Landeskog gets 68 points.

Makar gets 20 goals and 50 points and wins the Calder Memorial Trophy.

Girard breaks out has 15 goals and 38 points

Byram signs his ELC and ends the season on our 2nd line and with 25 points

Grubs is lights out and plays 70+ games with 60+ wins

Bura proves his detractors wrong and has a 50 point season.

Kadri has his best season yet centering our 2nd line with Bura and Josty and has 35 goals and 65 points

Josty breaks out with 25 goals and 50 points.

Zads has a good 1st half of the season and is traded at TDL to make way for the youngsters.

Timmons winds up on 2nd line by end of season and doesn't look back.

Avs go all the way to game 7 of SC finals and loose but then goes on to win back to back the next 2 seasons.

Avs give up a 1st rounder to Seattle for them to take Calvert in the expansion draft

Very optimistic projections but a guy can dream right.
