Does anyone have an idea of what Marc Bergervin will do with PK Subban's situation?

-Newport Don Meehan represents PK Subban. (not good)
-Subban is our #1 defenseman.
-Subban's dad is a long time Hab fan.
-Subban is an offensive threat every time he's on ice but is a risky player.
-Subban is a top 10 NHL defenseman and Norris Trophy winner.

I'm guessing that Bergervin and Meehan will play Russian roulette and see who gives in. Meehan is a tough agent and has been around for 30 years. Meehan also represents Andrei Markov! Both Markov and Subban are free agents and will cash in. With the salary cap going up I think Subban will get at least $8 million. Is Subban better than Erik Karlsson or Drew Doughty?

Here are some options for Bergervin:

Option 1: Resign Subban long term $8 million for 7 years.

Option 2: Resign Markov $5 million 3 years. Let Subban hold out like 2013.

Option 3: Trade Subban, resign Markov.

Edmonton might be interested in Subban and could work out a trade that involves Nail Yakupov, first round pick this year (Sam Reinhart or Aaron Ekblad) and other players or picks.

Yakupov reunits with Galchenyuk.
Reinhart 6'1" 190lbs (Right hand) could grow into our #1-2 center.
Ekblad 6'3" 210lbs (Right hand) has been compared to Alex Pietrangelo.

Option 4 : give subban 9M$ for 8 years AND sign Markov for 3 years at 6M$.

It's probably what will happen IMHO

Trade Markov we cannot afford to have Subban 8 mil, markov 6 mil, jorges and emelin at 8 mil Price at 6 mil thats 28 mil in 5 playersc. not affordable, markov or any of the other 4 could go down with injuepry at any time and we would be cap starved.

Exactly what I was thinking before posting this.

Gorges $3.9mil
Emelin $4.1mil
Subban $8mil?
Markov $6mil?

Price $6.5mil

Almost half our cap ~$29mil is for these 5.

Sign PK for 8-8.5M for 7 years and Markov for 5M for 3 years. Then trade Markov.

I'll prob get negative feedback on this but I'll bring up only young D who were re-signed by their teams(not UFAs)

Karlsson 6.5 for 7 years
Pietrangelo 6.5 for 7 years
Doughty 7 for 8 years

While I understand someone like karlsson was signed before he won a Norris I don't see Subban getting 9 mil like someone suggested.

7.6 mil is a more than fair number over 7 or 8 years.

The situations are not really comparable as the salary cap is going up substantially. Moreover, those players were not underpaid for two years by bridge contracts; if Bergevin is at all competent, he'll go for the maximum term, so Subban's new deal will eat up more UFA years, something that will be taken into account when they are working out dollar amounts.

Cant predict the outcome.

One thing is certain though. Regardless of length of contract or amount of contract...........HFBoards will explode and bandwidth will be in short supply.
