Just a suspicion, I don't think everybody's sold on him (mostly due to his offensive upside) despite what the public lists say. He looks primed for a Seth Jones like fall IMO & I wouldn't be too surprised if somebody takes one of Werenski or Provorov over him. I think Werenski has more upside while Provorov is more NHL ready.
Its hard to guess without knowing the order but I could see only one defensemen taken in the top 7 and that could very well be Provorov. Provorov is the riser while Hanifin has been around so long, scouts tend to overthink it. That situation happens a lot.
Buffalo: McDavid
Arizona: Eichel
Edmonton: Strome
Toronto: Marner
Carolina: Provorov
Columbus: Rantanen
New Jersey: Connor
I think the 1st 3 picks will be McDavid, Eichel, and Strome regardless of order. If Edmonton falls to 4, I think they would go defense instead of Marner but I actually think they might go Provorov instead of Hanifin.
Carolina is the one team I have no idea which direction they may go. Once the top 4 forwards are gone, they could go in any direction, maybe even Crouse.
Columbus even though they need a defensemen I think will go Rantanen especially if Provorov is off the board. New Jersey needs a scoring center bad and Lou loves Americans.
That leaves the Flyers, another team that I have no idea which direction they go. If Hextall sticks to his philosophy of building down the middle it would be either a center or defensemen. But the top centers will probably be gone and the teams prospect pool is full of defensemen. What scares me is Crouse is the ultimate Flyers catnip.
The wildcard of the draft is Barzal. He could very well climb into the top 7, pushing defensemen down even further.
