As veteran players and free-agents-to-be leave the Nashville Predators, the club acquires young, promising players and draft picks.

In a number of deals this week, the Predators acquired hard-hitting defenseman Garnett Exelby, gritty winger Ryan Clowe, 2nd round picks in 2007 & 2008 and 4th round picks in 2007 & 2008.

Exelby projects as a 4th-5th defenseman next season who can log around 15-20 minutes of ice time. He is certainly not known for his offensive skills, but his bonecrushing hits will soon make him a well-known and maybe feared player in the Central Division.

Clowe is a big, good skating winger with some offensive upside. When it is all said and done he should be a checking line winger who can score around 40 points year for year.

With the moves the Predators have made, they will look to sign their remaining free agents and prepare for the upcoming entry draft where they will add another few pieces to their hopefully great future.
