Sarros is signed for an additional 2 years. So long as Rinne isn’t signed for longer than the end of sarros dea so that the Preds have an easy transition.

Not sure I see the need to extend at this point in the season however. Especially given his age and if his play did drop off you’d have a replacement right there.

You’d likely try to sign a guy like Elliott as his backup next season to offer that veteran presence.

Interesting news. Rinne is 36 so the extension would probably only be for a yr. or 2.

Hellebuyck was a Vezina finalist and got ~6 x 6; Rinne is a Vezina winner. Ergo, sign him for 8.5 x 8. Do it Poile, doooo iiiitttt....

(I say this as a Jets fan who in no way wishes for the Preds to impair their competitiveness by signing terrible deals :sarcasm:)

Probably takes a pay cut in the process so Nashville stays competitive and has extra space. Anything longer than 3 years would be terrible. 2 years is ideal.

It's a 35+ contract so have to be wary with the years here. Expect an overpay in exchange for 2 years.

2 years, 4 million each. Nashville doesn't want him to go, and he doesn't want to go either. Both sides win

But a discount that he takes I bet. Saros is already being played into the lineup a lot more often than before and it’s only 7 games in. Rinne takes 4 to stay in Nashville, which allows Josi to be signed too while staying competitive. Rinne wants a Cup...badly. He’ll do what he has to get one I think.

I don't think so. He's played there his whole life and they don't necessarily need him. They'd be paying him to play 30 games a year and have a mentoring role...while also hoping he doesn't get hurt. How much would you possibly pay for that?

where are you getting that from? he isnt expecting to drop off and be a mentor? hes still the starter in nashville and he hopes to stay the starter through tge contract if its only 2 years.

a 4 year contract, sure that could be his thought process, not 2 years

Rinne would get huge(albeit short) contract in Free agent. There are many teams that would pay premium for a goalie like him as there are many teams having goalie problems.

Anyone think he may take a 3 year deal at what he should make for 2 years? Basically if he's worth 12 mil over 2, he takes 12 mil over 3 and does the LTIR thing that so many players are doing. It keeps him from losing money, but Preds still get the cap space.

    It'll be a 2-3 year contract imo.

I'm starting to hate that label. Yzerman was a choker until he wasn't. Ovechkin was a choker until he wasn't. Bourque was a choker until he wasn't.

It's a team game, and everyone has to step up to win. Dominik Hasek had to go to an All Star team to win a cup.

Could Rinne have been better at times? For sure! Their loss a couple years ago was tough to watch. But no one does it alone. Everyone shares the blame.

I suspect it will be in the 4 million range and will only be long enough that he will be an UFA when expansion hits so he won't need to be protected. I suspect he will be like Fisher, Poile will give him a contract for as long as he wants to play.

Was hasek considered a choker? He basically carried buffalo to the playoffs and to the finals.
