There's been an interesting development with Washington winning in regulation vs Boston. The Panthers now have a shot at 1st in the Atlantic. The Panthers need to accrue 1 more point than Boston Tuesday i.e. if Bruins lose in regulation and Panthers lose in OT or Bruins lose in OT and any Panthers win, Florida would take the 1 seed. Now you might say, Boston is hosting Ottawa, it's so over, but the Bruins are TERRIBLE vs Tampa and great vs Toronto. They may rest players. Meanwhile Panthers coach Paul Maurice has indicated Barkov and co will dress if this game could affect seeding, and it does. Toronto is looking to get Matthews goal 70 so they can rest everyone for game 82 vs Tampa. The Leafs have a say here too as a regulation win guarantees Florida regardless of what Boston does vs Ottawa.


Around the league games of note- Arizona plays their last game as the Coyotes. The East playoff race is a cluster f***, just to break it down:

Caps-Get in with any type of win vs Philly or an OT loss along with any Red Wings loss and any Pens loss. They are out if they lose in regulation to Philly.

Red Wings-Get in with a win vs Montreal and a Caps loss vs the Flyers, or an OT loss and Washington and Pittsburgh losing in regulation. They are out if they lose in regulation vs Montreal

Pens-Get in with a win vs NYI and any loss (regulation or OT) by both the Caps and Red Wings. They are out if either Washington or Detroit win. Alternatively, if they lose in OT and Washington and Detroit lose in regulation they would also get in.

Flyers-the hail mary-need a regulation win vs Washington (cannot be OT) and a regulation loss by Detroit, along with a regulation Pens loss

There was way too much smoke with Alex M as the owner that his ownership was going to be a disaster.

Maybe the NHL keeps Arizona on it's radar, Suns owner one day?, but I could see bigger markets like Houston getting a team first than the NHL getting a $$$ rich owner to go back Zona. And you have to think how many NHL teams are realistically possible?

They got hosed. The Tempe (?) arena deal that was proposed was actually great for the city and county, as it would have involved the Coyotes paying like $100m for cleanup of toxic waste at the site. The Coyotes were going to pay to clean up the site and build the arena, and I think all they wanted was to get the land at a cheap price.

Would have been a great deal for everyone, except for other gaming establishments that would have been threatened by casino Meruelo wanted to build next to the arena. Huh, weird. Wonder who funded the huge media blitz denouncing it as an awful deal for the city.

They will give Swaggy a game to see if it's as good chemistry wise without Cousins.

Swaggy is better with Barkov IMO. Chucky also becomes the primary shooter without Swaggy.

We have options but I just see Rhino with the Finns as the best option for everyone.

Not trying to "we want Toronto" or anything. But I think Tampa is a more dangerous matchup for us. We take a lot of penalties and if Tampa starts smoking us on the powerplay early, it's going to be really hard for us to keep to the aggressive style we want to play with.

I've been a subscriber to rolling with what got us there.

And before the TDL, a West Coast GM was calling us the best team in the league (Whysynski podcast). My guess was Sakic just by the timing of it all.
