Anyone got some good youtube videos on powerplay systems? The Umbrella doesn't work well for us since we don't have real shots from the point, I'd like to do something like a 1-3-1 or overload, but really need some good coaching on puck recovery and support. Could only find a couple 1-3-1 powerplay videos and they were... underwhelming.

It's a low level beer league, and our powerplay struggles because the other teams just put their two fastest forwards out there who puck chase and break everything up. We should be able to counter that with smart play, but none of us are ever on the same page. I think our powerplay gives up more goals than it scores, which is especially frustrating vs goonish teams.

On a PP you basically want to create a 2on1 situation at all times since you have that extra player. Especially in beer leagues, you could simply say whoever has the puck, if you're being pressured pass it down low to whoever is closest to you and get them to drive the net. From there you're going to have at least one guy open so they can either put it on net or take a quick peak for that open guy. Usually the open guy is going to be the player who just got rid of the puck because that defender is going to be heading to the player with the puck now since he has to cover both of you if you isolate him.

Try some slap passes. Or have someone screening and just throw the puck at the net and crash the net. And you always have to keep moving. A PP that doesn't move around a lot is the easiest thing to defend.

If you have a nifty puckhandler, have him setup behind the goal. This will negate some of your opponents' skill and speed along with making the goalie move upon a quick pass out from behind.

Agreed if there sending out there fastest forwards keep the puck behind the net try and work it down low have two guys in the slot let the forwards collapse down low to cover youre guys creating havok in the slot you can then throw it on net and see what happens or put it up high to the d who can take a shot or just give it right back down low to the forward behind the net.
