Saw a piece 15 mins ago that says we should go for Ehlers, which I think is a good idea IMO

Shaw + Juulsen for Ehlers ? they need a top 4 RHD and they showed interest in Shaw

Puljujarvi and the Oilers 2nd for Byron. Not sure I would do this or not. Would you? I hear they are looking for a 3rd line player cause their depth sucks. I don't see any team trading an asset like Byron straight up for Puljujarvi.

I don't really care for Puljujarvi but I would be willing to see how he fits our team. The 2nd and 38th pick would be what I am after!

I would definitely do this. But I can't see the Oilers giving up futures for 30 year old Byron.

Honestly, I don't think they do it either but that's the offer and I'm not even sure I would do it. The 38th OA does make me think about it though. I don't consider Puljujarvi a future value at this point though. More of a player that I would be curious about on how he fits with a new team.

They really have three choices.

1) A Nylander for Pulujuarvi (dissapointment for dissapointment)
or
2) A proven top 9 forward who produces and is on a value contract with a pick for Puljujarvi
or
3) Ignore his request of being traded and try him out with a new coach one more season.

The thing about Byron is: where does he fit on this team? He's not been good with Kotkaniemi. He's not been good with Domi and Shaw or Domi and Drouin. He's always good with Danault, but Julien doesn't seem like he's ready to break up Tatar-Danault-Gallagher any time in soon. I'd take the early 2nd and replace Byron's place in the top 12 with Suzuki or a ufa, if we can find one at a reasonable cap hit.

Plus we need to get bigger and Domi, Gallagher, Tatar, and Shaw are ahead of him on the totem pole. And Drouin will continue to get chances. And Suzuki's on the way. That's a lot of small guys.

Id love a Puljujarvi + Nurse trade!

Would our 1st + Byron + Juulsen/Fleury do it?

I don't see Nurse being moved, especially not for a bunch of secondary assets. 15OA is a good asset. But it doesn't get you Nurse.

That would be filling important holes, but creating an even bigger one by the Oilers.

I am willing to spare Byron if the deal is right for us. But Byron can fit on either wing on any line and still produce which is solid value. I have no problems at all having Byron on the 4th line next season and we roll 4 lines.

Our size issue won't be fixed in one off season. Kotkaniemi and Poehling up the middle is a start. But we got another soft style player in Suzuki but he is super skilled. I don't see Shaw or Byron as long term parts of the team past their current contract.

The 21 offseason is the fork in the road where we must take a direction. We have two years to evaluate our youth. I like our situation a lot

Tatar has made a name for himself in Montreal, it'd be a shame to lose him.

I agree. Just saying that if you want Leddy, it will take Tatar.

Habs are going to have to make tough decisions here soon. Do we have room to re-sign Tatar after the next two years?

Can somebody tell me why Meier would accept an offersheet from us?

Money.

Sharks can't offer him all that much right now. Likely will offer something around 5.5-6M AAV, if you offer up say...5 years at 8M AAV or something like that, it takes him straight to FA + higher salary. (Taxation will be similar between California & Quebec, so no impact there).

Also, the Sharks' core is much much older, whereas the Habs' forward group is the second youngest in the league. Plus he played in the Q so he knows what it's like to play in Quebec.

Nurse is a vital piece for Edmonton...no way he gets moved.

I think I do it. It's painful. But Leddy is younger and dmen tend to age better than offensive guys. Although a big part of Leddy's game is speed. But that also means he should be able to keep up even when he loses half a step.

Yes but he won't listen to other club unless negociation are going bad and we're not the only team who can overpay for RFA.
