    We can still afford Duchene
If we need more cap we can just trade Shaw and/or Byron in 2 years

IMO it's vital to reduce Danault TOI. He'll ask for too much with all the TOI we give to him. Ideally you want to resign him.

if you don't give him the TOI, he'll leave, his next contract is as a UFA.

Yikes. I'd hope he brings more to the table than that. To be honest, Ferraro's words about him were a bit discouraging. I obviously didn't see enough of his play but he makes us better at that position by default at this point.

What’s scary is if Hayes ended up somewhere other than the spiralling Jets, he might have received more this offseason

If Dannoh really wants 6 mil or anywhere close to it he can walk. If Gallagher doesn't make that there is no business for Dannoh to make even half that... because at best Dannoh is only 1/2 Gallagher... and probably less.

For crying out loud, how did we get back to these ridiculous salaries? No sympathy for these owners if they try to lockout the players for a rollback again.

    Completely agreed.

The encouraging part is that the NHL and NHLPA have already been talking about the next CBA. And it sounds like it's going well so far. Unlike last time when you can sense it was coming because they were already publicly disagreeing.

Still i have a hard time with that…...not many teams left able to take on such a contract without having to shed some huge salary:
    Montreal
    Los Angeles
    Buffalo
    Dallas
    Minnesota
    Carolina
    Columbus
    New Jersey
    Vancouver
    New York Rangers

Pretty much the only team that could make sense in their salary structure. Even then, not sure i should have included Buffalo who already have Skinner and Eichel at forward with 9+M, same goes for Dallas who's having Seguin and Benn.

    Still wouldn't mind….

Give Duchene the 9m-9.5m x7 years. I wouldnt even blink. #1 centers dont fall from the sky. We have tons of cap space and a plethora of players we can trade, waive, bury to come up wih a few more million if needed.

    No brainer guys.

Contract is insane but so is pretty much every contract these days. I think it's the new normal. He is something we lack and we need badly. Our team is full of small guys, and while Domi and Gallagher are able to make it work for them, a guy like Drouin needs someone to make space for him. Hayes by himself isn't helping but because of what he can bring, he's a better fit than Danault as a 2nd line C.

What do you think he will ask for?

Elite players make $11-12 million now. Average players will be making over $6 million. That's the new normal.

I feel agents and GMs know the cap will skyrocket once Seattle comes in. That seems to be the only explanation for these contracts.

Edler scares the heck out of me...A little bit of an older player, and injury concerns.
