auto correct is the worst
Oof. Duchene is going to get 9.5
Actually, it's a source of benign entertainment.
Always happens to me when I'm posting from my phone.
I meant that I doubt he would get a 2 year deal, my bad.
The money these guys are asking for is getting a little ridiculous and the market isn’t even open. I don’t even want to see what guys like Lee / Dzingle & Nyquist are going to cost let alone what Duchene will cash in on. As he was right behind Karlsson as the top free agent on the board who also plays center. Karlsson went for over 11. It’s going to be a ridiculous free agency this year.
I see these numbers and I keep thinking of guys like Clarkson and Ladd. With the likes of Lee already late twenties and maybe an Edler looking for more than 3 years.
I think Bergevin should look at using the cap in trades to get assets from previous years who signed at market value from years before when market values were lower like a Nick Leddy or Shayne Gostisbehere.
Gardiner is going to get paid as a #1 defenseman at this rate which is crazy and not worth it. It’s bad when you’re getting to a point where trading makes more sense than dishing out 7-10mill/per for 50-65pt players.
Plus the cap is saying it might only go to 82 mill and not the 83 mill originally talked about.
What are you guys thinking?
I get signing a new shiny toy and not giving up assets but.
Guys like Lee / Nyquist / and Edler is going to be asking long terms for big dollar amounts ending on the very wrong and late side of 30. But scary if you ask me for down the road when needing to make room and so forth.
He's going to get 10 and probably more.
Hmmm...i took a look at how many teams can afford to add a 9+ millions at this point. Not a lot of options and New York was one of them...not anymore. I think now there's only 8 to 9 teams that could bid on Duchene...and it's not all great team to go to right now.
How about a Alzner + for Kovalchuk swap? We need a rh veteran
What about Dallas? I always thought of them as a darkhorse for him. They need a top 6 centre, I believe they have the cap space, they have shown a willingness to spend. No state tax, he gets to listen to his country music in the Lone Star state.
They are in those 8 to 9 teams....but do they want a 3rd forward at 9m$.
My dark horse would be Carolina.
Damn Kevin Hayes, what a bummer we could have used this guy.
Bergevin's best bet looks to be to hit out on any big signings, let everyone spend like crazy and then take assets from teams for cap dumps.
There's gonna be fans wanting to use that cap space but we are going to need every penny once Domi's deal is up and Kotkaniemi is up too. Signing a free agent to a long term deal at a bloated cap is going to hurt.
That would be awesome. I've read a bit about Kovalchuk and the kings fans seemed to indicate that he could still be a good player but that their head coach was a nutcase and wouldn't play him correctly or enough. It would totally be worth a shot.
This is what confuses me a bit about the logic of not giving Edler that 3rd year with a NMC. Unless I am wrong, (not uncommon) Petry will be going into UFA and if we want to keep him there can be a gentleman's agreement made so he need not be protected. That leaves Weber and Mete + ? as the protected D. It wouldn't be that painful to have to protect Edler. Besides, if we made a trade for a guy like Ghost, it's the same scenario. Maybe we don't want to protect Weber by then...who knows? I can see not wanting to be tied to him for three years, but we are so thin at LD, we have to make a pitch for this guy.
Petry is gone in 2 years, so 5.5 M out.
Tatar is gone in 2 years, 4.8 M out.
Weise is gone in 1 year, 2.3 M out
Alzner is gone in 3 years or sooner, 4.6 M out
Petry leaving would assume the Habs have developed (Could be Brook) a player to replace him, brought someone else in with cap or they could resign him. Tatar I can see not being resigned but he'll have to be replaced which should take up that 4.8M.
The habs have Weber, Juulsen, Brook, Fleury at RD. They won't need to re-sign Petry.
On the wing, we have these prospects that could replace tatar in 2 years: Suzuki, Poehling, Ylonen, Ikonen, Teasdale
Those guys will be on elcs, so they will barely take up any cap space
I get what you're saying, but still would be reluctant to have Edler locked in as a protected player in 2021.... Too many "if's" that would make that a bad bet.
If the injury issues persist...
If we add another top 4 Dman by then...
If need to extend Petry before the draft...
If he was the last piece we needed to push the team into contention for 2019 & 2020, then sure, no problem. But even if we landed him, we're still too many pieces away from legit contention for that gamble to be worth it at this point imo
You might be right but a lot of people will be pissed if we go into camp with status quo minus Benn on the LD.
Don’t worry about this UFA summer, the Habs youngsters will play great, miss the show by a point and win the lottery thanks to all that “cap space” aka bribe! 2019-2020 will be a great year in Habs history.
Better that then Alzner 2.0!
(NOT meant to imply Edler would be that, moreso just affirming that I'd rather MB do nothing than make another major blunder)
if i'm Duchene i'm looking for 10 minimum.
At seven million to potentially on a third line? That's pretty pricey without the cap going up. Not sure I'm sold on him over Danault, Domi, or Kotkaniemi.
Danault will get 6.5 to 7. Gallagher probably around that too. Domi over that if he repeats his 70 points season.
If MB is looking for dogs he'll lose them for nothing.
Crap, didn’t realize Gallagher only has 2 years left on this contract. He’s a goner for sure hope he can get a cup somewhere
