There was more to Ferraro's account, as I posted in the UFA thread:

Ferraro said that he's often injured and always leaves you wanting.

Just when you think he can deliver more, he doesn't.

He's a top 4, not a top 2.

Also, he said beware of the third contract year -- it's the one that's going to produce a Marleau effect -- the type of unwanted, irritating third year where you're stuck with him.

There was more but can't remember.

Doesn't sound like someone to throw major money at.
Plus, his demand for an NTC seals the deal for me, as it does for several other posters who have shown similar reticence.

I dont mind 3 years, but definitely no NMC. 2 years at 7 million per would be ideal.

If that were the case, he’d probably still be in Vancouver.

I also don’t think he’s a solution. He’s older and is going to miss 15 games a season. This isn’t ideal.

Once upon a time ppl were sure Markov was injury prone...
Then he returned healthy and played 4 straight full seasons (first one was 48games due to lockout) & this from 34-38, after having managed only 65 games total the previous 3 years...

But Markov was like an Ironman before all of that. Edler has always had injury issues. Markov’s were related to manor knee issues. Edler hurts in multiple places. It’s an ongoing thing.

Markov is but one example.
If Edler had not had some poor injury luck in his past, we would be talking about a significantly more expensive target, and he'd have had no issue getting the offer he wanted from Van.

In any case, I'm not inclined to give him 3 yrs NMC either, but that as much on account of the expansion draft issue and, barring a trade, Weber/Petry/Mete would take precedence, as anything else.

The past injury issues are a non factor beyond the discounting effect they've already had on his market value as far as I'm concerned. He'd be an excellent fit for our roster needs, at a very manageable cap hit. Signing him is a no-brainer if he's interested and that 3rd year can be a modified NTC rather than NMC (which, for now, doesn't seem to be the case for him).

Did you just say 7 million for the oft injured elder?? Get outta town man. His career high 49 pts came 8 years ago and he’s not even close to being a pp specialist.
Edler would EASILY be our 3rd best dman and it's a 2 year contract. I doubt he is going to sign a 2 year deal tho.
