Watching Hynes last night it did feel like deja vu. Team not ready to play. Guys not hard on the puck. Play too soft.

Really there are issues besides those, all the same. Like finding a team identity in terms of style of play and, as a poster said very well above, having everybody on that page so that guys know where to move the puck and where to go both on offense and know where to go and what their responsibilities are on defense too.

Gosh Buffalo on offense got to move the puck across the ice against us easily last night.

Switching topics, Sal is becoming one of the best video guys in the league on our TV coverage. His choices of what to show and what to learn from watching are amazing. That video of Hughes skating fluently and freelyt, with amazing Jack Hughes grace, into a four man trap . . . and turning over the puck. Well chosen Sal.

Zajac with 1 shot on goal in 2 games compared to Hall's 9? For a second line center that is leading the team's ice time at 17:55, I would think we need more opportunities. Not so sure he should be ahead of Jack Hughes right now. Give Hughes more ice time than Zajac. Put him on the 2nd line.

I suppose Hughes is on line 3 to relive pressure. The pressure will be there no matter what. Play him.

The zajac fascination is bizarre. He should be purely situated to protect leads late.

Did you want to lose 11-2?

That's not the reason you run one of your most valuable players into the ground in a meaningless cause. If you want to make the case he was one of the few guys competing last night and that's why he got the most minutes that's one thing. But you can't coach the second game of the season looking to keep the score down in an already sure loss...that's Adam Gase type stuff.

I think he was being facetious and zajac just got the minutes because he couldn't put Hughes out for more minutes.

He would have played 12 zajacs if he could have.

So what happened with the Subban situation? Saw Hall go for a hit and then go down. Then Simmonds was mugging someone and Subban doing something from the bench. Anyone care to fill in the details?

The Zajac line has been significantly better offensively than the Hughes line too. That line has been unplayable. Who else should Hynes have put out there?

Ok, couldn't watch the game, got a text from my brother saying it was awful, worse than last night, Blackwood wasn't good and that they were scrambling all over and everyone was out of sync and that he hates Hynes lol. Then I check the score and it's 7-2, wooof. What the hell happened?

The Last Season Devils made an appearance. (but with Blackwood sucking)

Honestly, I think I've been brainwashed under Lou to believe that your 'system' is something you default to, and practice such that without thinking, everyone knows their duties and responsibilities and where they need to be... You patiently play your system and look for opportunities for exploit, and then talent takes over.

That is exactly what buffalo did last night. They played simple hockey on two zones, and then the talent took over once they were in the ozone.

I'm convinced we're trying to win on talent in all three zones now

It’s also possible that Buffalo is better than I thought they were. They took us to school last night for sure and surprised me with what looked like a good combination of skating plus size. We couldn’t out skate them and they were also bigger and more physical than us.

Then add Blackwood looking very shaky.

Oh please.... :whatever:

How many seasons has Buffalo had where they won a couple of games here and there to start the season and then slowly drifted out of a playoff spot by Thanksgiving?

There is no reason to believe that the Sabres will end up any different this year.

The Sabres beat the Devils because the Devils beat themselves via No Structure, Bad Coaching, Bad Defense and Bad Goaltending.

I think he's going to get fired. Team is probably tired of his overly intense schtick and methodology.

A new coach would give other players a new lease on life and another set of eyes from a different perspective.

Yep. Tundra, I truly believe Hynes has reached his expiration date.

I cut him slack 'cause the team was rebuilding.

Now that the team actually HAS THE PIECES to compete for a playoff spot, we need someone that can take the team there instead of one who still coaches as if we're just playing out the string.

Probably abuse of officials

Got a 10-minute game misconduct (didn't know what it was for as I stopped watching after the Sabres made it 4-1).

Zajac is also playing against teams' first lines

He's also playing with Coleman, who has been the best player.

Hynes is trying to play a heavy game with skilled, finesse players. It's not going to work. Personnel dictates play style to a large degree. There isn't any Matt Tkachuk on this team that you can plug into the top 6.

Subban was barking at at everyone on the Sabre’s lol. Had to have thrown some words in there that got the refs attention.

So there answer is have Hughes play a more finesse game?

Is that really what you are going with?

This team needs to get its shit together quick. And Hynes really has to go if they keep having the same issues, replace him with who ever. Incompetence can’t be allowed to fester
