Title says it all. I'm curious to see how everyone ranks our prospects. It's interesting because the whole top 20 have legitimate NHL upside, which I couldnt say in past years. It's also interesting because the top 6 is basically interchangeable - I could legitimately respect any ranking of them, in any order.

Harris is also a bit in a category of his own. A notch lower than the top 6 and a notch higher than the rest. But, Ylonen and Struble are skilled enough to round out a very interesting top 10 along with Fleury.

There's also, imo, another talent drop after Hillis, but enough guys to hope 1-2 become decent NHL depth.

Sruble is skilled enough to be able to get to that top 6's level, but we'll see how the year plays out for him.

Brook isn't ahead of Caufield, Suzuki/Poehling/Romanov/Caufield is our top 4 imo. Top 4 ranking will vary depending on who you ask.

Imo it gets interesting after #4, i still dunno who i have at 5, will need to see them play this year. I'm becoming a big fan of Harris tho.

SO to Fairbrother. I really like his skating ability in combination with his size, IQ and defensive capabilities. A sleeper def for me.

It's probably not the right thread, but anyways, i'll vent here.

I know it's become the soup du jour to say how great our prospect pool is, but i still maintain it is not as good as most people think.

Is it better than years past - of course, but that's really not saying much given the garbage we've had.

We still don't know what kind of offensive potential Poehling really has (sorry, using numbers he put up at a 10 day tournament over his normal production to somehow predict he will put up 70 points does not make sense).

To me, he's Eller 2.0

Suzuki - honestly, I really don't know what to make of him. Many pundits are still not sold on him while others are. I fall in the former - he was an overager in the Ohl - he should have utterly dominated, but he didn't. For me, he is the perfect trade chip to sell high on.

I'm not sold on Caufield. Yeah, yeah..i get the speed and scoring stats..but Corey Locke (who was almost the same size) scored 114 goals in two years with the Ottawa 67's and he was a complete bust.

I know, I know, it's way too early to write him off, but jeez, some people are already penciling him in the starting NHL lineup.

As for Romanov let's calm down a little here. He was barely on any scouts lists before he was drafted and literally came out of nowhere with his performance last year...i'll reserve judgement after i see what he does this year.

As for Brook, I like him, however where does all this sudden love for Harris come from? Because he's had a good couple of days at development camp? His numbers were just o.k. last year.

Ylonen, Ikonen, Olofson all had down years last year and none of them scream anything exciting.

Fleury looks like a 5 or 6 dman.

Yes, i know, i'm a pessimist, but i also like to be realistic.

Not sure what your definition of down year is...

Ylonen had 27 points in 53 games in Liiga, 6 points in 7 games at the U20-WJC.

Ikonen had 10 points in 13 games in Liiga but was injured most of the year.

Maybe Olofsson can be deemed as a down year with 9 points in 34 games in the SHL, but then again they're young players in men's leagues and don't necessarily always have a lot of ice time.

I have Teassdale ranked in our top 10. Impressive numbers for a 19 year old (just turned 20 in March) including Memorial Cup MVP (recent winners: Hall, Huberdeau, MacKinnon, Draisaitl, Strome and a few no names).

Note: He's also eligible for one more year in the Q if our scouts thinks he'd benefit from more ice time than Laval.
