Hey guys have a question. My wife's been applying to some jobs in Alberta. In Calgary, white court, and high prairie. Just wondering if any of you guys have any inside info on these places. Calgary is pretty easy to find out about but the other two are a bit trickier. Any info is helpful.

Thanks guys

Seriously, just stay on the Wings board sometimes.

Hey man, I used to live in Calgary and I had no idea where those place were either. They are villages/towns on the outskirts of Edmonton, but I only know that thanks to google. There are some posters from Edmonton, so maybe there's some hope for the OP.

Yeah but he essentially said "Calgary is a city. Those others places aren't. Yep." and you're defending that input lol.

Calgary is an urban city.

Seriously. You're saying that Calgary is a city in the style of a city. That's all urban means.

I'm not saying I know whether those other places are but I haven't claimed to be more informative otherwise.

Maybe someone can shed some light on High Prairie.. but I can give a bit of light on Whitecourt.

It's a typical oilfield town, 2 hours from Edmonton, 2.5/3 from Grand Prairie. It's a very bland town, but has all the major amenities, but they have a decent casino and an unbelievable prime rib.

The only drawbacks IMO are the distance between any major city and the oil field workers. Nice in the summer, brutal in the winter.

Man you guys are pretty harsh. So my english isn't that good in communicating sheesh gimme a break.

Calgary is a urban city to me is like a metropolis with all the things such will offer, night life, sports teams, bars, malls the like. A place that a city slicker likes.

I haven't heard of White court or High Praire so I'm assuming they are like Leduc, Airdrie type places. More nature stuff, smaller community etc...(Though I can't say for sure since I don't know either of those places).

I didn't say I was an EXPERT, I just weighed in my 5 cents lol. Ya'll not making a good impression for Southpaw of Calgarians being nice :P

I don't mind being in a smaller center I think I'd actually prefer it because I've always lived in small towns. My wife has lived in Calgary before and liked it. But damn the housing prices out there are crazy. If my house that I'm in now was moved out there on a similar sized lot it would be worth almost 3x the price

It may be 3x the price, but wages are probably around 3x as much.

At least, in terms of pricing, it isn't BC.

Higher wages=higher cost of living.. Don't know a lot about High Prairie, but Whitecourt is booming I believe, turning into quite the oil town.

Stoke me a clipper.
If High Prairie is anything like Grande Prairie the general cost of consumer goods will be higher as it's a bit more off the beaten path. Whitecourt would be similar in that sense, but at least it's two hours to Edmonton.

Totally biased but I'd recommend Calgary over either of those two places. Perhaps look in the surrounding communities (Chestermere, Okotoks, Cochrane)
