porter got waived today
It's on the post dispatch, I'm surprised he was the odd man out. Guess we will see if he gets nabbed which I think he will.
I'm okay with this.
the way i read lou Korac , he eluded to porter being less likely to be picked up over cracknell was that his contract is more expensive & that was the deciding factor, blues don't wanna lose either of them
We have plenty more glorified AHLers to take his place if he gets picked up. No loss.
Doubt he gets claimed, but even if he does oh well.
I'm pretty happy for Cracknell to be honest.
I think Porter has a reasonably good chance of passing through now, while all other teams are cutting players from their roster. During mid-season he'd be grabbed up by a team with one or more injured forwards.
Blues kept Cracknell over Porter eh? Meh... Porter and Adam Cracknell can play either side on wing and center. But based on Saturday’s move, it’s apparent that the club views Porter’s best position as left wing and that Cracknell has the edge at center and right wing, and that's that.
I'm surprised it was Porter. Hitch really praised his play last year. Porter is in great condition and has good speed.
Cracknell has some good qualities, but his skating is below the NHL minimum, IMO.
They must be counting on getting a lot from 34 year old Morrow to justify this move.
Hasn't Porter cleared waivers once before? Am I remembering that correctly?
Yes, he has. He has also been a free agent and couldn't get a 1-way contract. Circumstances change, and for a player to be seen as a viable 4th liner it doesn't take a vast body of work, as Cracknell has shown.
Chances are that he will clear, but nobody should be surprised if he does get claimed.
It's official, everyone on waivers yesterday cleared, including Porter.
Good to hear.
Thank god. Huge porter fan. This is very good for our forward depth.
he would have deserved a real chance in the NHL but glad we still have him.
stupid question: if he gets called up later this season, has he to go through waivers again?
I believe the new CBA has eliminated re-entry waivers.
Even without Porter, our depth is still pretty loaded for forwards.
I agree completely, just saying that having a player like him waiting in the minors in case of injury is very nice to have. I think he is a very solid 4th liner and for him to be our 15th best forward is great.
I agree. Aucoin played 41 NHL games last year (in a 48 game season) and Jaskin and Andronov are two young dynamos. I wouldn't disocount Velieux as a possible callup either.
Or Rattie, overall a very deep team that can handle injuries. Not only do we have lots of forward that can play at the NHL level we have forwards that can step in and play top 9. Not many teams have multiple players that can do that.
Jaskin yes, Andronov has a future as a 4th liner, so I wouldn't call him a dynamo.
The defense worries me a bit. I wouldn't be shocked if porter (or someone similar) gets traded for a dman. I'm not to comfortable with Chorney, Edmundson, Fairchild, and Hakanpaa.
Well cole is there infront of all of them, Fairchild has shown some promise in limited NHL action. Edmundson is still a year or 2 away from being fully NHL ready. It seems like Hakanpaa (or however you spell it) is close to being ready for limited NHL action. Plus there is talk about Whitney getting an AHL deal.
Surprised to see Cracknell up and Porter down.
4th line dynamo?
