Jets are going through cap crunch issues atm and it got me thinking, Laine doesn’t seem to be that appreciated but is going to command a sizable portion of the cap moving forward, while holding tremendous trade value as a 20-year old 40+ goal scorer — should the Jets just trade him?

That would instantly solve their cap issues and the return would contain extremely capable win now players.

Vote!

Also, what do you think the return would be if it happened?

When the luck of the lottery balls fall your way and a player like Laine falls into your lap... you do all you can to keep him. <<<< Period.....

And where is this "doesn't seem to be appreciated" come from?

Seems like this was created to make some sort of comment about how you perceive Laine is treated by the Jets and fans, rather than a serious discussion.

What is the point of this thread? I have no idea why some Laine fans get so worked up over legitimate criticism of the player. Laine is a fantastic talent but he like most young players has holes in his game that he will need to address to take the step into super stardom that most feel he can get to.

Some of you weren't around in the past but there was significant criticism of Scheifele when he was younger as well. Bambi and Scheifele down were fairly frequent sayings due to Scheiflele not having great balance and being able to stay on his feet. Mark fixed his issues and low and behold the criticism has died down.

The org clearly values the kid, he's consistently played in the top 6 with skilled players. He is a key focal point in the number 1 PP unit.

Outside of some nitpicking about some linemates chemistry What is there to complain about...

I’m not saying he should be, that’s what the poll is for.

What do you think the return would be if it happened?

What?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic::skeptic:

This isn't the Islanders who couldn't ever put a team together around Tavares and had no hope but to rebuild...

You only trade Laine if you have a bunch of over paid older players, your window is closed and you need to rebuild.

With a bunch of budding young stars and KEY players locked up with your window wide open there is NO WAY IN HELL you trade Laine.

The ONLY way Laine would be traded is if Laine and his agent comes out one day and demands the NHL max for contracts ( which is like $15MM ) so 8 years @ $15MM. At that point you do have to have an honest conversation about putting all your eggs into one player VS using the money to have a a more balanced lineup.
