Where are we going to get that? GM strongly believes in current coaching.

Flyers were 5th best in the NHL in limiting shots in 17/18.

And 7th best the year before (and 3rd best in shot differential).

Despite having mediocre talent.

So I'd say they are concentrating on structure and doing pretty well with it. But definitely need better goaltending.

Im abstaining from the loaded vote. I think they’ll be good enough to get there in the next 4 years, but there’s 3-5 teams every year that are good enough to get there, and that’s with parity becoming more and more of a thing. It’s not inconceivable we could see an nhl with 5-7 “contenders” any given year.

Yeah, luck. Like we know, a team reaching the SCF more often than not has gotten help from at least one team by knocking a riskier opponent out of the way. 2010 probably wouldn't have gone as far as it did had the Canadiens not put on glass slippers for the playoffs.

Ah the summer, when the glass is half full. Goaltending is a major question mark and plenty of hyped goalies don't turn out. If I was an optimist, I would have voted yes, but watching this team for 30 years makes one a bit more realistic.

I think goaltending is a bit overhyped. Above average goaltending is all that is needed with a deep team which I think the Flyers will have. To me the question mark is on defense. Sanheim and Myers have to develop or someone below them in the prospect ranks is going to have to really surprise.

So coaching is good?

Results are all that matter, not whether Striiker or Beef are happy.
98 points with last year's dreck is good coaching, Giroux had a career year b/c the coach put him with Couts.

This year, if Hextall can find a 3C and the goalies regress to league average, I'm thinking 105 points is doable.

Why would I care what Beef thinks…? If his (Beefs) opinion aligns with mine fine and if not, just the same. 10 straight loses, horrible PK, questionable calls ups, line ups, questionable lines on the ice after a goal, questionable PP calls. Putting Couturier with Giroux saved his job actually.

Ten straight losses means nothing, it's your record at the end of the season.
And the team has improved since Hakstol took over, the 2015-16 playoff run was driven by hot goalies, this year by no goalies.

2015-16: CF% 50.63 (16), xGF/60 2.22 (15), xGA/60 2.28 (20), SV% 93.35 (2) - PK xGA/60 6.56 (12), GA/60 6.82 (18) 86.26 (21), PP 6.84 G/60 (10)
2016-17: CF% 51.09 (9), xGF/60 2.18 (19), xGA/60 2.24 (13), SV% 91.68 (26) - PK xGA/60 5.66 (2), GA/60 7.40 (20) 83.86 (28), PP 6.88 G/60 (15)
2017-18: CF% 49.79 (18), xGF/60 2.28 (21), xGA/60 2.24 (7), SV% 92.48 (12) - PK xGA/60 6.60 (4), GA/60 9.12 (29) 81.69 (31), PP 7.26 G/60 (17)

The only obvious trend is a steady improvement in xGA against, Flyers don't give up a lot of good scoring chances.
And this may explain why the goalies have much better S% 5x5 than the PK, the defense at even strength can protect them.
The raw numbers are impacted by the increase in scoring over the last three years.

Provorov, TK, Ghost and Patrick have improved under his watch.
The jury is out on Sanheim, and Laughton may simply be a player playing out of position.
I don't think any coach could do much with Leier, Cousins, Weal, Luby, Manning and Hagg.

They gave up a ton of quality with about 20 games left in the season and the Pens series was a joke. We all could have scored in our sandals as there was no backchecking to help out the d and the d is just soft and bad compared to the great teams which we are bot close to being.

I’m reserving judgment.
I think it’s probably better than most of this board thinks, because I don’t think it’s the worst staff in the league.
But by no means has it not been flawed.
I want to see how this season proceeds.

I think there’s enough assets in place so that even if a bunch of our prospects miss, there’s enough left to trade for the pieces needed to put the team over the top.
