Only if the NHL changes the rules to increase scoring again.

Crosby was the only player to break 90 points this season and scoring has been trending downward since the lockout.

Hall has been over PPG his last two seasons, at 21 and 22. Coming on these boards I see how jaded Oilers fans have been. We, for the first time since 1990 (although I guess you can throw Weight's name in there too), have a star player on our roster. In fact, we have four guys who are likely to be better than anything we've had since the Weight era - and likely better than anyone we've had since Messier won us a cup.

We've gone through a lot of suffering to get where we are, but we have three potential superstars in this lineup and people are selling Yak short way too early. An actual defense core moving the puck up to these kids and they're going to make a lot of people shut up quite quick.

Hall -35-50g, 95-110p
RNH - 20-40g, 80-100p
Yakupov 30-60g, 75-110p
Eberle 30-45g, 70-90p

Schultz... I think he's a really tough one to call and personally think he might be the kid of ours that I think is overhyped. I certainly have doubts he'll ever hit 50 points in the NHL but I think it's safe to say 15g, 40p is attainable for him - hopefully he can improve the play in his own end along the way.

Some serious optimism there.

Schultz is very much like RNH. Both "should" be doing much better than they are. Both have very high hockey IQ and slight builds. If you watched Schultz in the AHL like I did, you wouldn't have any problems adding him to our young superstar group of forwards. He earned best AHL defenseman with only 48 games in the AHL because he was THAT good. Much like RNH his first 20 or so games in the NHL he looked great as well.

I think both Schultz and RNH being so slim and are having troubles now that opposition is targeting them and they are forced against stronger opposition. Some serious weight training and some more NHL experience will allow their higher hockey IQ's to push them into NHL elite players.

Hall: 91 points.
RNH: 102 points.
Eberle: 76 points.
Yak: 77 points.
Perron if we get a great #2 center: 71 points.

Adding Shultz since it does make sense.

Average: 40-50 points moving forward.

Career high: 68 points but probably -25 or worse while doing it and only if we do not draft Ekblad.

Right now we are grooming Schultz to be a top pairing guy. I would have agreed with this 110% except we do not have anyone who can play with him/train him and just generally help him out.

If we end up with Ekblad I think Schultz will see his ice time drop dramatically and he will be groomed as a #3 type PP specialist. Which with patience he should be able to succeed at. That would be the safe route.

If we do not draft Ekblad they will continue to throw him in the deep end. He will unfortunately either sink or swim. His success will depend on how much effort he puts in and how much help he can get from coaches, his d-partner (which I think will be Klefbom :help:) and his forwards :help:. In short he has a much greater chance to sink than to swim.

But that is a calculated gamble on the Oilers part. I truly believe Shultz does have the skill, size (with a good offseason or two), and smarts to be a solid top pairing type.

Purely going off of hype and what i've seen multiplied by optimistic projections... Klefbom and Shultz could end up being a decent top pairing with neither of those player truly being a dominate #1 type. Marincin, if he fills out his frame, could also help fill that top pairing role with Shultz. I do not think Nurse would be a good fit for Schultz because Nurse and Shultz would be too chaotic.

If we somehow end up with Ekblad I think Nurse and Ekblad make a great combo and they will push Shultz out of the top pairing role in only a few years time.

Hall is already better than Weight.

Weight had the 104 point season but he was also a babe in the woods when other star players like Modano and Sakic were on the ice. Todd Marchant was our de facto #1 center in the playoffs.

Hall will never be a player that you have to take off the ice to keep him away from tough competition.

I agree Hall is already better than Weight - this was kind of my point - that we have 3-4 players that are likely to be better than anything we've had since Messier really.

I do disagree about keeping Weight away from top competition - Weight could take on anybody in any role in the playoffs. It just made sense to have guy with no offense shut down another teams top line and let your top offensive player feast off the lesser players. We had pretty good coaching in those days I seem to recall with limited rosters.

Career highs.. all of them should be at least 80 point players in their best years.. Hall has already accomplished that and Eberle was damn close. We are definitely underrating them.
