Sometimes it seems as if nothing ever changes, but looking at that... :help:
Not only Hyman and Kane, I'd say Foegele and Ryan as well are excellent upgrades in that bottom-6.

Tbh I don't think it was that horrible last year, they deserved to be in the playoffs (and probably to beat WPG), it is just that it was so top heavy. Not top 6 heavy, but really top 2-3 heavy, much better balance this season.
If things go squirrely though, Woodcroft probably puts McDrai back together. But, it's undeniable that even if he did, the depth would be so much better than last year's squad.

For defense, it's a swap of Larsson, Bear and Kulikov for Keith, Ceci and Kulak

Lindholm could win the Selke. He's their Ryan O'Reilly.

The Blues would be the comparison to make. Flames don't have a Pietrangelo, but the Blues didn't have a Markstrom. Everyone remembers Binnington's unreal regular season that year but nobody remembers how average he was come playoff time.

I remember Binnnington being really solid come playoff time, in the finals in praticular.

I really love the game Woodcraft has them playing. Everyone has bought in and playing excellent hockey.

You look at everyone from McDavid down the lineup they are playing the system he has laid out and it's working for them.

I don't want to get over optimistic but their opportunity this post season seams better then any years past.

I hope they can keep it up and the goalies can keep up their level of play.

As was discussed the night the Oilers beat the Preds:

Minny is 3-0 against Edmonton.
Nashville is 3-0 against Minnesota.
St. Louis is 3-0 against Minnesota.
Edmonton is 3-0 against Nashville.
Edmonton is 2-1 against St. Louis.

Conclusion: If the Oilers meet Minnesota, we're f***ed.
Yup the only team that scares me is the Wild. The other teams will be easy and we will win the cup if we avoid minny.

I won't make a prediction but I will say they actually have a chance to do some real damage. The team still is built poorly overall for the playoffs. Suspect goaltending and defense but at least Woodcroft has them playing good 5v5 hockey. That gives us a chance.

Previous years we really didn't.

This team is playing the best since 2016-2017.

All depends on the matchups, I'd say.

They might win in the 1st against someone like Nashville or LA, but I don't really see them beating any team they'll meet in the second round.

I don’t like that Nashville matchup

Nashville is nasty with Jeannot, Borowiecki, Lauzon, Kunin, Trenin, etc

As much as people don’t like to talk about it, a large part of hockey is luck.

A couple of bounces here and there and you’re already up 2-0 in a series. At that point you only have to win 2 out of 5 games and you’re moving onto the next round.

I’m not expecting a finals or even conference finals appearance or anything but I think it’s nice to be a fan with reckless optimism heading into the post season. It sure as hell is more exciting than expecting disappointment, in my opinion anyways.
