Good thing we hung onto Tocchet and Hall.

To late to get anything for Hall now. And I'm not actually superstitious when it comes to the draft-lottery thing.

Last nights results oddly didn't make it worse, Vegas running away was better than Edmonton getting points, Jets lost.

Still, even I start to become pessimistic here. Minnesota is on a roll. Another team coming up is just killing the hope.

Man, that team -Minny- don't deserve Zuccarello, when I watch them, he is always good, and the fans in the thread when I lurk there is just full of hate. I really didn't think they would look like that on closer inspection. Probably to many Norwegians there or something. :naughty:

I need to ask everyone a legit question here -- we're all superfans so curious to what you all think. Regardless of how much we all want playoff hockey here, does anyone think we are legitimately better than 3 of the following four teams?

CGY, NSH, MIN, WPG

I think we are probably better than Minnesota / WPG but Nashville and Cgy are both good teams (and WPG is really close imo). I mean, if we get on a 5-6 game winning streak there is still hope but looking at this big picture I'm not sure we're a good enough team to make the playoffs this year.

Still a chance of other teams imploding (Vancouver's missing Markstrom for instance), but I would say CGY and NSH are better teams than we are, esp Nashville if their goaltending stops being so horrible.

Of course, should we be better? Yes. With BB as our coach a few weeks ago, with Keller, Schmaltz, OEL, Kessel etc playing up to their hype, yes, we should be better. But if we're not better than 3 out of the 4 teams above... I think whichever teams are the best deserve to be in the playoffs more than we do honestly

I think we are better than our record, but obviously have not proven it on the ice. The same team without Hall played better before Christmas. No reason that form can't return, but we are running out of time and we do NOT control our destiny.

If you were to put players side by side with Coyotes vs any of those teams by perspective line I dont think the Coyotes win many comparisons until you get 3rd line.

Well, yes, the other teams are better. Hall was supposed to be the ace in the hole, we were in 1st place and got Hall to solidify that, but our coaching and goals have dried up.

Picking the Tampa game as the divider, before that we played 45gms, and produced 2.84 goals per game. Since that Tampa game we've played 21 games and produced 2.33 goals per game.

2.33 puts us in the bottom 2 in the league since that time...and we wonder if we're a good team. We have good players, what we have is a lousy coach.

Right but that's not the question really. If you look at the east, I think both TOR and FL are good teams but likely only one will make the playoffs in that 3rd spot in the Atlantic. Florida should be much better but Bob has been terrible until he played us (wtf Bob), Toronto... who knows what's going on with that team.

What I mean is not every good team makes the playoffs. In the east TOR, FLA, PHI, NYI, CBJ, CAR, NYR I think are all good teams but only 4 of them are making the playoffs (not a clean break bc divisions). CBJ is 11 games above .500 (11!) and barely hanging on to that 2nd WC spot the same way we were bc GP. NHL Hockey Standings

MIG (and others) what do you think? Do you think we're better than the other teams fighting for a playoff spot in the West?

For lines etc, Daily Faceoff does a good job of showing where ppl are skating (they're right most of the time). I'm honestly curious from over here

No...not as a team. We have great goaltending.

1/3 of our roster could play on any other team. The other 2/3 would have trouble cracking the lineup.

All those teams can be beaten by effort. Funny, but I still think Minnesota is the best of those teams. Except for goaltending. Minnesota has useless goaltending. With normal goaltending, they would have been great, with high class goaltending they would have been dominant. Of course, they play with the goalies they've got. Still, what was that last result against them? No need to rip up in that.

What happened to the Jets, they seems to have nosedived a little. But this was also the season the Yotes managed to win in Winnipeg.

Nashville and the Flames? It's interesting, but it's not an obvious answer to which teams been the best IMHO. They don't scare me. Games against them just feels like crapshots.

Now the thing is this isn't a contest on what team is the best. It's a contest of which team wins. It's almost, but not exactly, the same.

Both Florida and Toronto have good forwards, both have suspect D, and both have well above average goaltending that isnt playing to its potential. Right now I give the edge to Florida as Toronto's already suspect D is missing 3 of their top 4. Freddie will need to stand on his head to get them in, or Florida will have to flop??? Both would probably be a speed bump for Tampa if they make it.

I bet quite a few players have already booked holidays for mid April. I bet those players also have fat contracts they haven't lived up to.

Willing to wager Yahoo Sports has a larger following than the Coyotes. Don't be salty.

I’m not salty. Follower counts don’t mean dick.

It’s no different than any dude who thumps his chest on Twitter because he’s got tens of thousands of followers and 3/4 of them are porn accounts.

I just want to put this out there as a feels good (though actually bad) moment for me and I feel gloaty.. And I had a bad feeling about going after Hall..

There are going to be some surprise forwards available come 2/24 and given our progress this season, I'm perfectly happy to wait and see how things shake out. We don't need Hall, he would be expensive to acquire and if it means taking our only real strength and making it a potential weakness, I'm not about it. I don't even want to see us move our 1st yet. We seem to have a strong scouting staff for the first time in ever and giving up the statistically best pick we have when we are not a cup contender seems foolish. I'll trade our 2nd, a tweener roster player, and a b or lower prospect for help but that's the max I think we should do at this point.

What are the conditions on the other 1st? We just gave up 5 prospects (who may never make it, or we could have hit on 3) for half a season of Hall. I know our pool looks pretty good at this point but that's still a lot. If he plays awesome and we are able to resign him at 6 years, 8-9.5 million I might be ok with this but from my perspective we just blew our load early.

In fairness I also said I didnt want to make a trade unless it was for an impact forward which is exactly what Chayka did. I should have put more detail into that and said a high impact center.
