It's also up to the team to properly evaluate a player for the team's benefit, not just the players.

I thought Babcock was a better coach than just giving up on a player that **** the bed for 3 games, especially when he produces the way Leivo has. Also Babcock didn't say it was about Leivo screwing up, he said that Leivo was the one getting screwed because he didn't play PK.

Heck Babcock hasn't sat Hyman & he's **** the bed most of the last 40 games.

It's a good thing he did, because we went 13-5-2 after he pulled Leivo and made the playoffs by a point.

What you're not comprehending from that Babcock quote is that fringe guys like Leivo are at a big disadvantage if they can't kill penalties because their other skill sets just aren't good enough to keep their job on their own.

Guys like JVR, Matthews, Kadri, etc. have enough other skills that they don't need to kill penalties to keep a job. Guys like Leo, Brown, Leivo better be able to kill penalties or they won't find themselves in the league very long.

What you're not comprehending is that coaches BS to meet their needs or desires of that day, because they know the sheep will buy it. Just like his BS line of playing Brown for road games instead of Nylander because of home teams last change. That didn't last long, because his desires changed.

You forgot Hyman's name in the "better be able to kill penalties or they won't find themselves in the league very long" list. He needs to work on it, he's been the worst of the regular 4 forwards & the PK has **** the bed for the last 40 games.

Can you expand on this a bit? What is it you think Babcock desires so much, that he'll knowingly make his team worse and lie to the fans about it?

I'm interested to hear that.

Do you think coaches can manipulate careers? Do you think it never happens? Do you think coaches make mistakes? Do you think he'll potentially screw with one player & favour another because he likes their commitment better? Do you think coaches don't punish one player in hopes to scare another player? Do coaches ever send messages to players through the press?

Coaches **** around with players all the time. They would love it if all players sucked up to them 24/7 including the ones with most talent, but the coaches perfect world doesn't exist.

It's like the coach that asks the players if they are tired after a bag skate. Players say "no", coaches say well you should be, you better skate harder & skates them more. Players say "yes" & coach says well you shouldn't be, you should be in better shape & skates them more.

Very true.

Leivo is in the same sort of situation as a guy like Peter Holland was earlier. Good skill but not skilled enough over guys like Nylander, Marner, JVR, Kadri, Matthews, etc. but then doesn't bring a speciality element that will keep him in the lineup like great forechecker, incredible speed, agitator, awesome hitter, fighter, winger who can also take draws, etc. like Hyman, Brown, Komarov, Martin bring.

There are people here that just choose to ignore this fact.

Who do suggest comes out of the lineup? Thank goodness (if you're a Leaf fan) Fehr broke his hand, it allowed Kapanen to be promoted from the Marlies.
Leafs advance to the Cup final:), there will be injuries, maybe then Leivo and Sosh are in the lineup
