So, Canada is 3-0. Assuming USA beats Czech, then would Canada still get a bye if they lose to the USA?

All three teams would be 3-1. Who would be 2nd/3rd?

We can also discuss the other Pool in this thread.

Assuming that the Finns beat the Czechs as well, it would lead to a situation where Canada, US and Finland would find themselves ina three way tie with all teams having 9 points. I´m not sure exactly what rules there are to determine such a situation, but I think it would be the scores from the mutual games of these teams from mutual games. So it would be impossible to predict right now.

Tie breaking formula

The tie-breaking system for two teams with the same number of points in a standing will be the game between the two teams, the winner of the game taking precedence.

Due to the fact that the three-point system does not allow a game to end in a tie, then the following tie breaking procedure is applicable when three or more teams are tied in points in a Championship standing.

Should three or more teams be tied on points, then a tie breaking formula will be applied as follows, creating a sub-group amongst the tied teams. This process will continue until only two teams remain tied. The game between the two remaining tied teams would then be the determining tie-breaker as the game between these two teams could not end as a tie.

Step 1:
Taking into consideration the games between each of the tied teams, a sub-group is created applying the points awarded in the direct games amongst the tied teams from which the teams are then ranked accordingly.

Step 2:
Should the teams still remain tied then the better goal difference in the direct games amongst the tied teams will be decisive.

Step 3:
Should the teams still remain tied then the highest number of goals scored by these teams in their direct games will be decisive

Step 4:
Should three or more teams still remain tied then the results between each of the three teams and the closest best-ranked team outside the sub-group will be applied. In this case the tied team with the best result (1. points, 2. goal difference, 3. more goals scored) against the closest best ranked-team will take precedence

Step 5:
Should the teams still remain tied, then the results between each of the three teams and the next highest best-ranked team outside the sub-group will be applied.

Step 6:
Should the teams still remain tied after these five steps have been exercised then Sport considerations will be applied and the tied teams will be ranked by their positions coming into the Championship.

Note: If not all mutual games have been played yet in an ongoing tournament, the tied teams will be ranked in the standings according to the following criteria: 1. Lower number of games played, 2. Goal difference, 3. Goals scored, 4. Positions coming into the Championship.

Feels like Canada has it locked up no matter what they do against the US, assuming Finland do their part.

Yes it would be goal difference between the tied teams. If US beats Czech, and Canada, and Finland beats the Czechs and Denmakr to make it so all 3 teams are 3-1.

Finland's is -4 with a 3 goal win against the US, and a 7 goal loss against Canada
USA is -3, 3 goal loss to Canada
Canada is +7, 7 goal win over Finland

Therefore if the US were to beat Canada by 4 goals or less Canada would win that tiebreaker. If the US were to beat Canada by 5 goals then both teams would be +2, they would go to head to head between US and Canada which we are assuming US won. If the US beat Canada by 11 goals then Canada would be tied with Finland and win on their head to head. If US beat Canada by 12 then Finland is ahead of Canada

US wins by 4 or less

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Finland

US wins by 5-11

1. USA
2. Canada
3. Finland

US wins by 12 or more

1. USA
2. Finland
3. Canada

This would only happen if Finland beats the Czechs though, if they didn't then it would be US first, Canada 2nd and the Czech's 3rd

more scenarios are that the US are out if they lose to the Czechs and Finland beats Denmark. That would put Canada first, and the US out

The Czechs or Fins cannot finish first.

If the Czechs lose to the US but beat the Fins there will be a 3 way tie between those teams at 2-2 in Canada beats the US

The US is currently -3, Fins are +3. 2 games are left there though so that would be harder to figure out. Need to wait until the czechs play USA today.

Some scenarios for the other pool.

Russia have secured a playoff spot.

Sweden hav not. If they lose to Slovakia and Russia, and the Swiss beats Latvia, and Slovakia then Sweden is out. The loss to lovakia would have to be relegation, otherwise the Swiss win over Slovakia would have to be overtime, and then Sweden would have to lose out on goals for in those games.

if Sweden beats Slovakia in regulation today then the winner of Sweden/Russia tomorrow is first. If Sweden goes to overtime against Slovakia then they would need to beat Russia in regulation tomorrow. If Sweden loses in regulation against Slovakia then Russia is first.

If Russia doesn't come first they will come 2nd.

If Sweden beats Slovakia today, they will come first or 2nd. The 3rd spot will come down to whoever wins between Swiss/Slovakia tomorrow assuming the Swiss beats Latvia today, if they don't then they would need to beat Slovakia in regulation to advance

It's kinda complicated, things will become much clearer once today's play is over

If U.S doesn't win Canada in regulation and Finland takes 6 points from Denmark and Czechs= Finland 2nd of the group right?
