I am not on board with a Anne Hathaway avatar...not that I’ll be joining, but it will hurt to see a millions Annes on the threads...at least make it a Kate Beckinsale...much better to look at repeatedly

How a group like Jefferson Airplane and artist like Grace Slick went from White Rabbit to We built this City was a mixture of sad and pathetic.

It was obvious that their management went from what worked to looking for size to counter Tom Wilson.

I want to say that they tried selling "We Built This City" to like a few bands and no takers except Starship. For my money though Yes's "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" is maybe the worse offender.

I mean just LOOK at this video

Would ya LOOK at it?!?

are people trashing We Built This City in here? I mean it's no White Rabbit, but come on now.

It was the sell-out moment for Jefferson Airplane/Starship.

So yeah I am trashing it. But I am hardly alone.

Rolling Stone Top Ten Worst Songs of the 1980s

In 2011, a Rolling Stone magazine online readers poll named "We Built This City" as the worst song of the 1980s. The song's winning margin was so large that the magazine reported it "could be the biggest blow-out victory in the history of the Rolling Stone Readers Poll".[12]

Blender magazine's 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs Ever[edit]
The magazine Blender's ranking of the song as the worst song ever was in conjunction with a VH1 Special of The 50 Most Awesomely Bad Songs...Ever.[7] In order to qualify for the distinction, the songs on the list had to be a popular hit at some point, thus disqualifying many songs that would by consensus be considered much worse. Blender editor Craig Marks said of the song, "It purports to be anti-commercial but reeks of '80s corporate-rock commercialism. It's a real reflection of what practically killed rock music in the '80s."[8] When asked about why the song was listed as No. 1 on the review, Marks referred to the line of the song "Marconi plays the mamba" by asking, "Who is Marconi? And what is the mamba? The mamba is the deadliest snake in the world, so he must have meant the mambo, but it sounds so much like 'mamba' that every lyric web site writes it that way. It makes sense neither way."[9]

GQ Worst Song of All Time
In August 2016, GQ magazine declared this song as the worst of all time, referring to it as "the most detested song in human history".[2] The article covered Bernie Taupin and Martin Page's roles in writing an early version of the song, the song's development into its final version, its massive success and backlash, and Grace Slick's inconsistent statements about whether she liked the song or not.

We Built This City - Wikipedia.

If you think back to some of the 80's songs that is saying something.

Was it the worst song of the 80's? Probably not, there were some terrible songs then. But it was more I think knowing what that group could, and did, do and how deeply they sold out with that complete crap.

interesting. It seems like a perfectly fine 80s pop song on its own. Which I like as a general style of music. I know my parents absolutely despise most 80s music though, so I guess I can see it.

@Scandale du Jour , I think this one is the one you need. She's even got (kind of) Letang flow!

Again, I think that it is more a reaction to such a game changing and talented group and singer selling out with a by the numbers pop song that filled the 80's. Nothing wrong with a Bananarama clone song that dozens of artists did similar at the time, but it is like a drunk Crosby retiring and playing fail hockey in a beer league and scoring a goal. You know that he can do a lot better and you hate to see it.

That does give me an idea for a variation on the album cover idea.

Album cover for bad songs that will stick in people's heads once they are reminded of them and make them want to stick a fork in their ears.

I will give some examples.
