Playing like they're waiting for a trade!

Seems to me that the players are standing around waiting for a trade. They need leadership in the dressing room to get them to focus on the game rather than who will be leaving. C'mon Sens, it's time to say to no to golf!

first game back. A lot of teams looks terrible. Toronto let in 2 short handed goals on the same penalty. Philly got embarrassed by San Jose.

Some teams just looked rusty lots of turnovers. Anyone see the Toews turnover? he atleast played in the olympics

Excuses. We've got a ton of them all the time. First game back for all the teams that won also. Not going to let them off that easy.

There is no excuse for having a stinker like they did with the playoffs on the line. Even one bad goal should not have caused such a collapse. This team lacks on-ice leadership, the guys who are willing to pay the price to win puck possession, sacrifice their body to block shots and take a hit to make a play. No embarrassment, no fire... no intensity.

we are a mediocre team though so this is expect at this point inconsistency is what makes us a bubble team.

not surprised that we got blown out after a long break

nothing to do with leadership the leaders actually played a good game and seemed ready to go. The young guys look like they just came off a week of partying

They were all back in Ottawa practicing at least 3 days before he game. There's no excuse or any "hangover" from a week of partying.

The leadership is obviously the problem and more specifically, Spezza's leadership. Leadership isn't about showing up to play once in a while like Spezza does. He'll be an all-star one game and then invisible and being lazy for the next 2-3 games. Leadership is showing up and giving it your best every game, which Spezza doesn't do.

While the leadership may be a problem, our young D cost us that game 100%. Ceci and Cowen were directly responsible for 3 or 4 goals ffs.

Leadership is more than just the guys with the letters but it includes them. There are too many guys whose I-don't-give-much-of-a-crap-meter is set on high. Other guys have to step it up once in a while too. Some guys ended up ok or neutral statistically speaking but based on level of expectation, honestly did anyone stand out in a positive way that game? I didn't see anyone limping or bloody out there like it was a fight or at least a struggle until one or 2 egos got bruised after a slash. From the goalie out, no energy, no life, no heart, no self starters, all waiting for the next guy to do something.

again nothing to do with leadership

Ceci, Cowen and Lehner were absolutley terrible and led directly to goals

Young guys will make mistakes. But I noticed that some of these mistakes are coming from "lazy" plays. There's no passion and a severe lack of intensity on this team.

This one game isn't a fluke, it's been a trend this year. I noticed that the team was most passionate when the 3 "leaders" were out with injury. It's not a coincidence.

The role or a leader is to lead by example and to inspire others with what they do and say. i don't see this happening very much with this group.

Leadership is a facile target and excuse. We don't really know who steps up in the room, but word is Neil is vocal...but he takes bad penalties constantly.

What the team lacks more than anything is a buy-in mentality. Everyone from the most talented guy (Karlsson) the lesser light (Condra) needs to be in the right place then they need to backcheck with intensity. They need to not turn and look at Lehner when a player is coming behind them for a scoring chance, for example...

The team could use a less expensive Gonchar, or a Bertuzzi type. Someone that's been through the trenches, is a winner (no one on this team has won in their roles...MacLean won as an assistant but not head coach, our stars have never won the Cup) and can settle things down or loosen things up. Martin St. Louis is a pipedream and he's not the youngest guy but dat work ethic...
