i agree he has done very well - but it doesnt mean a thing until he does it in the bigs. many of the guys he seems better than at this point could end up better pros. you have a point though - he looks very good right now.

Just looking at whom LA picked there with Steckel and Karlsson in the 1st round I'm glad they were able to take Cammalleri when they did since I don't know that their 2 first rounders will amount to much.

I think Cammalleri still would go towards the bottom of the 1st round if the draft was held over. There are still questions about his size and if he can reproduce his AHL success in the NHL.

Still too hard to say. I never liked to officially evaluate a draft, or where players should have gone, until five years after the draft. In my pre-draft rankings in 2001, I had him in my top 20. Always thought the kid was an offensive gem. Had him ahead of Umberger (and boy, I wish the Canucks would have listened to me on that draft day). Based on what we've seen at the AHL level, and last year's early flurry in the NHL, he looks like a potential top-line forward.

Will Svitov develop into a Primeau/Holik type, or will he keep being a nutcase? Will Chistov rediscover his rookie year form, or keep playing below his talent, like the last two years? Can Kobasew take his scoring prowess from the AHL to the NHL? Can Dan Blackburn and Adrian Foster return to health?

Safe to say, there are some players I would take ahead of him now, and always will. (Kovalchuk, Spezza, Hamhuis, Ruutuu, and a few others). On the flipside, it's safe to assume Cammy will be better than some drafted ahead of him. (Knayzev, Karlsson, Novotny, Monro and Steckel, for example). But I'll wait on the development of some of the other players mentioned above before stating for certain who I'd take ahead of him.
