Kaskisuo played two games on loan with Bewe of the fourth level pro hockey in Finland back in 2011/12.

NCAA obviously deemed him eligible though.
Not sure how that works... 4th level Finnish hockey may not actually pay or count as pro, for all I know.

I left Bubela off of the table for his Slovak Extraliga experience (despite being NCAA eligible), but top-tier Slovakia is easier to justify than fourth-tier Finnish, I think.

Left out Ferguson because of his previous ECHL experience.

Good on UoA though!

They're semi-pro.

From what I've heard, you get transportation and some gear, but you don't get paid by the team itself. Add in that a player on loan or a tryout isn't getting paid and I think it's safe to say that he probably hasn't received a salary, and he hasn't made his pro-debut.

kk. I'll put him in.

NCAA doesn't count CHL for arguably less compensation haha, but I think it's more in the spirit of this thread to include Kasiksuo

Carr is UoA's 6th player turning pro, pretty good for a CIS team!

Guelph had two signing pro contracts today, but both had prior ECHL experience.

Gentlemen
There is a large number of student athletes "turning pro"
the list is signifiicant!
BUT
How many AHL "turning pro" contracts are ATO's, where the kid is lured to the AHL with a promise and never gets a shot and plays in ECHL entire year next year. TJ Foster, U of Alberta was a terrific talent who left the Golden Bears to the promised land of the AHL, pretty sure he played entire year in the ECHL this year. How would he have looked in their lineup and helped a three peat.
How many "turning pros" are for the ECHL regular season, as they have to declare a playoff roster and often then have put players on a roster spot for next year....most "turning pro" careers end with a couple of reg, season echl games. and they get invited back for tryouts the next year....no contract....amateur or college eligibilty done....hustle back to write deferred exams( if they planned on this some dont have this as an option) feeling very frustrated about the experience of "turning pro".
How about the lower end College kids who jump at the SPHL.....like the ECHL they operate on a weekly salary cap....
SPHL is around 5500 per week, divided by 18 to 20 players.
Not sure what echl is but maybe 9 or 10,000. again divided by 18 or 20. these teams pay more to workers compensation funds to cover their ass due to injury claims than they do salaries.
Sorry ranting again but "turning pro" is misleading....6 Golden Bears and say 20 CIS players "turning pro" is an interesting side bar....I hope they have their degrees!
pretty sure TJ Foster wishes he did! So many of these student athletes get to these "turning pro" opportunities and are tooo proud to say whoops!

Not bad points made.
College players need to be careful when making their decisions, but that's what their agents are supposed to be helping with.

Foster, I agree should have seen a little more AHL time (only played 2 games) but the Marlies roster had little room to spare (a number of guys with AHL promise instead were mainstays with the Solar Bears - Foster, Rodewald, Watling, Faille, Vail). It also make sense to start him in a lower level pro-league and get acclimatized to that type of game, and work his way up.
I expect him to get a fair look next year with the Marlies, as several of the current crop graduate to the NHL.

Good point, but TJ Foster is on an AHL contract and likely earning around 50k per year...

Spink signed the same place as his twin brother did last month.


Left off Danny O'Regan for now, just bc I want some more info.
I've seen reports for him being signed for this year, but also reports for the deal not starting till next.

Added Welinski and Anselmini, and finally added O'Regan. Still can't find a reliable source on what his contract entailed, but so far doesn't sound like he's playing with the Barracuda this season.

Not entirely sure on the details on Lyon's contract (like O'Regan the other day, and Murray earlier).
I wish teams had to be 100% transparent in their transactions and contract information, no matter how minor or not :laugh:

D'Agostini played one game on an ATO after his team was eliminated from the OHL playoffs. He then returned the next year to junior and played as an OA.

I'm not sure that should be counting as "prior ECHL experience".

Either way, he's with the Brampton Beast, and recorded his first win over the weekend.

"Turning pro" gets a lot more grey with CIS players.
I've been so far excluding players with ANY pro experience until somebody makes note of the individual player in question, and then adding them then, as the demand comes. I'll add D'Agostini :)
