Bitter Florida fan here who wants to express my sincere appreciation for the third wheel on VGK's top line. In a season where Karlsson set the world ablaze with 43 goals and JAM was viewed as the real prize in the supposed salary-dump trade with Florida, Smith quietly posted his best regular season yet with 60 points in 67 games. And then he did this:
*Finals: 5 GP - 3G - 3A (led VGK)
*Playoffs: 20 GP - 22 PTS (led VGK)
*Appeared on scoresheet in 15 of 20 playoff games - led VGK
He won't turn 28 until the end of next season and y'all have him under contract through his prime at a very reasonable rate for a legit top line guy (5 more years with an AAV of $5M).
His playing style ages well, high hockey IQ, has wheels, great hands, can playmake and score, and defensively responsible.
I'm very pissed my team's GM is a vindictive, egomaniacal ass as I am very sad Reilly is no longer a Panther.
I have a thread up in the trade forum trying to gauge his trade value from other fanbases, but I figured I'd bring the acknowledgement to y'all rather than refer you to a thread that'll be buried by tomorrow.
I hope he continues doing great for the Golden Knights.
