Place your bets: Legal sports gambling arrives in New York

The News reported that Pegula Sports and Entertainment had a lobbying firm working the state Capitol in March, and were advocating for online sports wagering in venues.
"I don't think that we've been shy about saying that we are for sports gambling in New York State, and especially in-venue," Kim Pegula, the co-owner and president of the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, told The News in April.

The Pegula's unwittingly succeeded in getting marijuana decriminalized in NY. Many Bills and Sabres fans can't handle all that stress!

As of now, the only way to legally bet sports in New York is in person at the approved casinos. The goal of gambling proponents is to allow mobile betting (like New Jersey) and to open satellite sportsbooks in arenas and stadiums throughout New York.

If the bill permitting this is passed in January, the earliest in venue sportsbooks can happen is Fall 2021.
Could this be a reason why the Pegula's aren't in any hurry to do anything with the current venues? Maybe they're waiting to see what happens.

The pro teams will go big if the gambling laws expand, according to a source with knowledge of the Pegulas’ plans. There would be lavish sportsbooks built in New Era Field and KeyBank Center
