Why is that a mistake?

I'm so tired of people saying that it's losing Murray or Jarry for nothing or trading one of them. No, the comparison is losing Murray or Jarry for nothing or trading Murray or Jarry and losing one of Kahun, Hornqvist or Tanev for nothing. The return you'd have to get back for Jarry or Murray has to outweigh the cost of losing one of Hornqvist, Kahun or Tanev (probably Kahun if I had to guess). I would 100% rather lose an expendable goalie for nothing than trade that goalie for at most a late 1st and lose Kahun.

As the roster currently sits, this is likely the protected list:

F - Sid, Geno, Jake, Rust, McCann, F, F
D - Letang, Dumo, MP
G - Murray/Jarry

For the F spots, there are really only 4 possibles as I see it. Kahun, Tanev, Horny, Blueger. Likely those spots get filled with Kahun and Tanev. Exposing Horny and everyone else. Now, is the value of an aging, oft injured Horny more than what looks to be at least a 25-ish 1B starter? Doubtful. And who is more likely to get swiped by an expansion team? I'll give 3 guesses and the first 2 don't count.

Ya I remember reading about that site and the owner also confirmed the posts weren’t from the Hoffman’s IP... but like you said that is easy to get around.

Just seems to me that if you completely ruin someone’s rep like that, you better have empirical evidence on your side.

The Hoffman’s were accused of buying “hacked usernames” and fake IP’s or something - by the Karlsson’s.

Again, I’m not ruling out that the Hoffman’s are 100 percent guilty. It’s just that - that site has some asinine shit being put on it on a daily basis.

Circa 2009 there was what could only be described as a deranged person who was obsessed with Crosby’s love life... and posting creepy ass things that seemed very personal.

The site was/is chalk full of scummy content. So it’s more believable that the things being posted originated from one of thousands of wackos/trolls, than Hoffman’s wife. Who knows, maybe the info posted was something that only the WAGS would know, leading Karlssons to Hoffman.

edit: The site seems to be non-existent now, which is for the best.

I remember a post, I think it was referenced on LGP way back when I was on there, where some deranged person was making huge blog posts in 2010 about how Crosby was some seedy alcoholic who made frequent use of escorts and the entire organization spins him to look good to cover up those facts. Needless to say, anybody who knows anything about Sid knows that’s nonsense, but never underestimate the nastiness of hyper-neuroticism, especially combined with anonymity online.

All that to say, I don’t trust any of those individuals and would gladly take Hoffman on the team to replace Galch if he was available.

Trade value on that goalie is about mid to late 1st. Can spike higher but is rare. You're pretty much in the same ballpark for a good 3C, plus the backup goalie going leaves less of a hole.

With Simmonds on his way out of the league - I don't think you really understand the value of PH. We just take him for granted here and forget how good he can be in slower playoff situations (veruss the run and gun/dump chase hockey we're playing with spastic forwards).

Also - the answer here is simple: If Murray or Jarry are available - they're getting picked. Overanalyze it all you want, but none of Tanev, Kahun, Teddy, or Hornqvist move the needle compared to young goalies with hot stretches and/or cups under their belt. The only situation where this doesn't play is if somehow Murray is here without a no move clause and is grossly overpaid - or a fantasy world where Kahun is a 40 goal scorer in the next 1.5 seasons.

Disagree. Dumoulin - Pettersson - JJ - Riikola is perfectly fine depth down the left side. They want the top 3 there in the lineup, and playing on their dominant side, so it makes no sense to bring in a 4th guy.

Letang - Marino - Ruhwedel is a problem if we let Schultz walk. We need a reliable #5 RHS if Schultz goes. That can be a summer problem though if Schultz comes back and we keep him past the deadline. Ruh is and always was supposed to be the #7, eating nachos until he was needed but not expected to be an everyday player.

For a team with Cup aspirations these next 2-4 yrs, it's not good enough for me.
As you can see with just one Dumoulin injury, they are treading water.
You can say but look at the goals against!? This is good enough!
This is very good goaltending with a rookie being your best actual defending defender and a bunch of bottom pairing #7's trying their best to keep up.
I don't want to tread water. I want to win a Cup.
MP/JJ/Riiko are all bottom pairing D-Men and we Letang needs all the stability he can get and just having Dumo and hoping he 1) stays great and 2) stays healthy isn't the best gamble in my mind.

After saying that, i DO have some hope for POJ stealing someones job in the not so distant future.
Either JJ's or MP's.

And the odds that Horny goes the way of Simmonds, Franzen, etc., is what I'm getting at. Guys like him that play the way he does, don't last forever.

Agree on the second part. It's absolutely going to be Murray/Jarry picked. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if CDS got snagged over what would be our exposed forwards.
